I think a 170 on a 5.5 will be very close to the 160 on a 4.5.

A 180 on a 5.5 is the best of both worlds IMO.

thanks for that tip . .. I rode a 'friends' bike M620 with a 180, he as the M wheels bike felt heavy to turn and transcioning from rh-lh or lh-rh he did not rode mine, he told me to ride his and 'evaluate' . . . told him 'ok' and that was it . . . the only other M1000 here, feels Ok with the 180, it has teh power . . . the 998 uses 190!!!

these are the wheels, all black !!!

Don't know you need it on a street bike, but a 180 on that fat rim might be slower steering than the 190...

998 is gonna be stock ..  well, as much as I can  . . since I'll be needing brake and clutch masters [3] and slave cyl . . .the rest, gonna keep it stock . .  one bike on the modding block is enough . . . now, time to go maka dinna !!!!

I'm not talking about changing rims.

A 180 tire will be cheaper than a 190, and you don't need a 190 on the street.

If the wider rim flattens out the 180 too much, and actually slows the handling, it might not be worth the tire price savings is what I'm getting at.
