I meant kw...

I personally am not sold on PV...

I will build a solar hot water collector to handle heat and domestic hot water

We kind of have no choice. Power will likely exceed .30c a kw this year and couple that with gas. We have low energy everything installed and there is nothing further we can do other than go off grid all together (which is still an alternative). One thing we don't lack is sunshine so next will be solar hot water (or efficient electric heat pump run off the solar).

We do lack sunshine...

A water collector will work if the storage can be kept at a high enough temp, and of sufficient volume, to last through the week long stints of no sun we experience frequently in the winter. I don't think PV is really viable here whether it's an off grid battery system or an on grid set up where the utility is forced to buy your power...when they really don't need it. :-\

We will use as much of our own generated power during daylight hours (dishwashers, washers, cookers, water pumps etc.) and minimize over night usage. We have 4w led lights inside and out as well as a gas cooktop. We don't run (or own) heaters, dryers or pool pumps at all but we are still astounded by the size of our bill.

Any excess will then be exported at the reduced FIT.

Ah the trick here is add an option for customers to choose the level of green energy they want incorporated in their supply eg. 20% and then charge the customer to supply them the energy I'm exporting.

This verges on politics due to the legislation that mandates it.

We won't go there on the forum
