I toured the California countryside in the early '90s. The variation in terrain in the different areas is incredible. Redwood forests, desert, snowy mountains, canyons. A few hours in any direction completely changed the landscape. You could snow ski and water ski within a few hours of each other. I was there in the Fall. I rode a Triumph Bonneville through Yosemite and Harleys through the Napa Valley. Got to drive through a Redwood Arch! I really enjoyed it and hope to go back one day.

when we did our trip, I was scraping pegs on an F650GS  [evil]  first time i've ever scrubbed a rear tire to the edges.  but more importantly, it hammered into my head how a bike can be an all-in-one thing (ergo comfort for distance, still handle aggressively enough to be fun, luggage space)

sooooo much twisty. best thing I've ever done in my life, really.

Coldest day of the year so far here thus morning.  Down to 44f...
