You have any 4k transmission yet?
I was looking at 55" version.
But with ni content yet, will revisit in a few years..
A good 1080p tv is a lot cheaper...

Evening.  All of this talk of temps leads me to this.  This is the coldest July/early August I can remember.  Lots of people wearing light jackets.  This is when it is supposed to be the hottest for us. 

80% chance of rain and severe storms today.  Probably a day to avoid riding Molly.  Despite the fact I spotted a new spot for a mural shot yesterday and am itching to get back there on the bike.

No...

but I'm not the kind that will go and replace a perfectly good device just because of new technology, and we need a tv. We have a 17" right now that is so old the CRT rattles around in the case.

I figure if I get the extra bells and whistles now I'll be ready when the content arrives.

My theory is a 70" 4k will be price of the difference after the content exists..
Unless of course you are sitting 8feet or less away and the up scaling works. ..
I am about to upgrade my 42" 720p plasma..
Most content here us 720p and most I download also is...
But would like something better. Then gives a good 2nd tv for us.

dp, that's about my theory.  When I upgrade, I try to make sure I get something that will support "up and coming."  Back in the early 2000s I bought an HDTV monitor widescreen TV.  Great picture on 480, didn't do HD (720 at the time) but could display it if it was fed an HD signal.  Once I upgraded to HD on my satellite & started using Blu-Ray the picture was pretty amazing.  It rivaled the picture on the 50" 1080 Plasma that replaced it.

Don't need a second 60" tv...and 70" would be a bit large for the space. I need a tv now. While I usually download 720 I have 1080 options. Seating is about 10 feet away.

As far as the upscaling...hard to tell if it's a load of crap or if it works.

I just want it so I can watch my races. That ain't shite. ;) I don't watch tv otherwise.

There's also my Boss to consider. She likes watching movies, both cable and rentals. The quality of DVD's is better than transmitted stuff.

We like movies, so I built a full theater system around the 50" plasma.  Depending on the broadcast, some races sound and feel like the living room is in the middle of the track.  It's a decent system.  Since my wife loves movies and TV series on DVD, she really likes it too because the surround setup is really good and the subwoofer helps you feel the "bad guy" music  [laugh]
