The 500k is still insane but not nearly the 1.1 mil of the firewood carrying planes I was ogling before. I like that it takes Jet A and has a FADEC engine control. 2,200 RPM, ceiling of FL 220. (if you need that) 10 gal an hour fuel burn is pretty thrifty. 

I did a quick look, and you can get the same plane (with a gas engine) 10 years old, <2k hours, for ~half that.
$250k buys a lot of fuel.

But if you need super range, well, the oil burner is nice.
Max range at max cruise is ~ 9 hrs in the plane.
Just bring a few empty coffee cans.
And that full-fuel payload of 435 lbs... 2 adults plus luggage.

Oh yea, i hear you there. There probably isnt a $250k payoff in fuel savings. I don't know why those things are  so expensive. The airframe is a 50 year old design. But forgetting the price, sort of, the Diesel with the 3 bladed prop is pretty nice. The interiors got nicer too.
I used to train in a 150 and flew in a 172 and they had that cheap plastic in there.
These new ones have a higher quality about the cabins. It's not worth an extra $250k though.

You want nice cabin, these can be picked up at a decent price.  Best fit & finish of the era in the class...
