Going to brave the icy roads to see what it's like out there. Looking at more snow showers tonight and everything. I'm not sure we'll get to school the rest of the week.

Apparently she wasn't stupid...

I guess the term is relative...or subjective to the circumstance.

There are some who think we are stupid to ride motorcycles.
I wonder if her Husband put the idea in her head and pressured her to do it?

Stupid is as stupid does.
That's all I gotta say about that.

Ok, we are all jumping to (rather absurd) conclusions. We know nothing of her skill set as a climber, perhaps this was par for the course and she had done winter ascents of various other mountain ranges. We also don't know how prepared she was, but from one of the pictures in the article linked, she looked somewhere prepared (at least as much as you can be, of course we don't even know if that picture was from this trip). For those that don't know, the White Mountains have cabins at various points for climbers. Maybe she was seeking one out for the night when some accident befell her and was immobilized.
The point is, we don't know the circumstances other than what was in the two rather brief articles (one of which erroneously kept implying Mt. Madison was the highest peak in the NE---it's not, nearby Mt. Washington is). People do winter ascents of the Presidental Range all the time and at 5000-6000' and generally not too far from civilization, they are good training for sustained harsh conditions on more challenging mountains like the Alps or the Andes. But the weather there is some of the more unpredictable on the planet---DP can confirm this. Due to currents and jet stream patterns, Mt. Washington is a windy mess at its summit, and until a few years ago held the record for highest recorded wind speed on the planet (234 mph!).
Anyway, my rant is getting long and Grampa's mention of chocolate and peanut butter on another thread has me jonesing for a candy bar. The point is, we don't know her story and condemning her as an idiot is the kind of conclusion-jumping that does no one any good. Let us just agree that it sucks when people die young.
I will mention that I found it weird the dailymail article linked kept mentioning she had a $1m apt in NYC. Why was that relevant? Were they trying to stir interest by flaming the reckless-person-with-money-and-invincible-attitude-gets-comeuppance flame that so often attracts readers/viewers?

Sorry Royce...I have to question her powers of reason, I didn't say she was an idiot although I am beginning to wonder, when she decided to climb Mt. Adams and continue on to the summit of Mount Washington...alone...in these conditions...the forecast was no secret. Yes, the Whites, and particularly the Presidential's might be good training for ascents in other locales, but I doubt people make those climbs alone, or begin the trip with the forecast she had access to
assuming those were her plans as reported by NH Fish and Game. I can only assume they got that info from her husband.

Any recommendations for places to eat while in Bridgewater, NJ? I'll be up there a week from Monday.

Plenty, if you don't mind driving 20-30 minutes. How much you wanna spend?
