Problem free...  That would be nice!  The truck has a CEL that is a pain to fix, the Z makes people think they are getting shot at when I cut it off and it gives a massive backfire!

Morning.

The Pinto was a pretty good car, despite the engine "run on" and "cylinder Ping/detonation" under load. Both problems could be remedied Im sure.

Yea, runs fine and plenty strong.  I just have to reset it every year to get it inspected.  It's some kind of weird immobiliser code, and I don't even have that installed.  I know it's in the computer software so something is causing it to show.  It's nothing related to engine or emissions management so I really don't worry about it.

I skimped on the interior features (no digital console, power windows or power locks) for hardware.  I chose to buy the Tire & Handling package (larger tires and more ground clearance), heavy duty suspension, towing package and such.  The interior is very basic.

That was the 2.3 l version that was introduced later that was most problematic.

The original cars had either a 1.6 pushrod motor that originated in England in the Cortina and was literally perfect...or...

a 2.0 motor that had the funny decel diaphragm on the intake. It was supposed to drip fuel to eliminate HC dumping. Wasn't one of their best ideas in practice.

Quote from: ducpainter on April 25, 2015, 06:32:54 AMSo it has the 1.6 GK

But not all US engines are ecoboost...they have a 2.5l dog standard in the S version. Less power than the 1.6

Yes they did offer a non EB 2.5 here (was the Volvo 5 cylinder IIRC) when they first arrived, but dropped that pretty soon.

I was pretty young when my parents owned the Pinto and didn't know Shit from Shinola about cars or much else. (even though i thought I knew just about everything at 14 or so) So I'll take your word for it.

Yep, I amended my post. Lol!

The EB units are much more lively and better on juice.

You're gonna love yours. Great little car.
