I'd rather hike when it's between 0 and 60 of ours. You don't need to carry your weight in water, you never get cold, and rarely are soaked in sweat. :P

The manufacturer of your GPS may be able to fill you in on some of the operating details.

My Garmin GPS's voice guidance would occasionally mispronounce a road name when approaching, then magically pronounce it correctly when I got on the road.
"Make a left turn in 300 feet on Bundy Doctor"  [laugh]

It's on track to be 35 of theirs today, 40 tomorrow, and 43 on Monday.

My GPS is just a free app on my Android phone. It's upgradeable by paying, but I don't think basic functionality improves...just the number of features.

I really only care if it keeps basic track of where I am in case we get lost, and how long it took to get there. Keeping track of pace allows you to plan future hikes.The other features are just a bonus.
