I'd have something to say about being charged 6 hours to change that alternator too.

That said, it's probably the wiper blades that accounted for the other 5 hours. [thumbsup]

Not sure what you expect from the expensive German luxury vehicle?

They're not known for being cheap to own.

I would hate to see what they charge for doing something involved.

So far, with the exception of this incident, they have cost me less to operate than GM and more than Nissan.

But I hardly ever go to the dealer or a shop.

I forgot about them Changing the serpantine belt while they were at it. Theres anothe 10 minutes.

Anyway, this is why I do my own work whenever posdible, and why I want something easy to work on, because there are plenty of other things to do. There are lawns to be mowed & watered, snow to shovel, buildings to work on and so forth. Seems like the list never ends.

And to think, when I was a teenager I was bored.  [laugh]

Oh, I agree the time is way off, but I wouldn't expect to wander out of a Benz dealer with a cheaper bill, either.

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Did you ask for an estimate before you authorized the work?

The price doesn't surprise me either, but the labor hours are excessive.

I had it towed in at 6PM on a Friday, so no. Options were, they fix it or....they don't. Chico is about 200 miles from the house. AAA wil tow me 100 miles. There were no easy options.
Sometimes you just have to suck it up.

They sent me a second request for a Survey so I shared my thoughts with them, and with the DMF.

I believe that's a requirement:  http://www.bar.ca.gov/consumer/auto_repair_guide.html
Pretty much nationwide.

I understand that you thought you had no choice. Would you have authorized the repair if they gave you a price? Did they give you a price before they asked for authorization?

Yea he verbally quoted me $740 or so over the phone. And like it or not I would have paid it.
Then when I was able to get it, it was again after hours. I never did talk to the mechanic face to face.

I believe the most they could have legally charged you was $74 dollars more than the quote without approval.

Long story short you got beat for a buck and a half.

Yea. Well stuff happens sometimes. I got to vent to them. Some times you get a deal and every once in a while you get had.
