Morning! (for some, not all).

Woke up with a sore throat and some congestion.  Hoping it is just the semi-annual sinus act up, due to the season change...

Thankfully I don't have a very full calendar today for work.

My google-foo is failing tonight and I seek, again, the wise insight of my moto friends.

I got this Curt-brand basket (link below) and have it assembled but I want to ensure I have the right fastener to install it into the car's receiver.

Their assembly instructions & videos don't show how to properly do this.  I can't imagine it's just a clip and pin although one photo I saw seems like that's all there is.

Suggestions?   Thank you. [beer]

If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Alright.  I'll trust it (and you).  Thank you. ;)

It is just a clip and a pin.

I am skeptical of the claim of 500 lb. when used in the real world.
The basket and provided parts may indeed be capable of transporting 500 lbs but I would be concerned about hitch integrity with 500# hung that far off.
Customers have used similar devices that put the bike quite close and they're pretty flexy with a 450# monster on them.
If the material and workmanship are good the flex can be OK.
I tend to not want to discuss or repair dynamic structure concepts at the side of the road.
I have found if it looks stout and sorta looks like all the others and doesn't wiggle nobody gives it second look and everything arrives at the destination.

I would also be concerned about it hitting when the car leaves a driveway.

I cannot remember what your new whip is and all of my concern may be moot.

I doubt I'll have 500lbs on the basket but that's what surprises me that just a pin/clip will hold/support that if I ever did.

The "car" is actually a 4Runner so it's got 18" of clearance so should be good unless I go off-road (not planned but neither was this adventure a month ago so anything goes).   ;)

Thanks for the input!

morning

Curt makes good stuff. I put one of their receivers on my 3/4 ton GMC.

Pin just keeps it from sliding out, it's got one of the easy jobs.

What P prolly doesn't know is that same pin pulls a 7K pound trailer.

The only thing about that basket that I don't like is the folding aspect. That's a disaster waiting to happen under the wrong circumstances.
