I'd have to agree. Don't care what day it is as long as I open my eyes.

We fished an area called Regal Sword, which is about 30-35 miles off Chatham MA, and heard the bite was hot but fish were big.



We woke up at 3 am and made it on the water at 4. From there, we went motoring out the in calm waters of the morning to the regal sword. Shortly after arrival, my brother hooked up with a tuna, but in short order, his knot came untied.

Trying again, he hooked a freight train.







He's been trying to catch a tuna for years, I was mostly along for the hell of it. I watched him strain to hold the pole while the fish just ran, taking drag. It'd slow, he'd reel some line in, then it'd take off again, going even further. He mentioned he was getting tired, being the helpful younger brother I am, I told him to get stuffed-you wanted a tuna, you get one.

Shortly thereafter, his complaints became a bit frantic. "Help! I can't hold it!"

So I took over. I battled that fish for as long as I could, finally, I had to tap out and hand it back to him. This back and forth continued, with each iteration getting shorter. We both avoided saying the apparent truth.

The fish was winning.


After over an hour, and seeing the monstrous beast cruising along the surface a few times, it finally managed to break free the line. Rumours abound of fish out there over 100". I think that was one of them.

Exhausted, we took a break and had some food, while I wondered if I wanted to even try again. My arms felt like wet noodles and my back was spasming.

Shortly later, I saw a buddy of mine cruising on through and we chatted for a bit. He had been trolling and trying to get a smaller fish, but then we watched his son lower a jig and immediately hook up and be unable to hang on, so my buddy stepped in. For a while we watched him battle the fish, his rod and his body bent in half. At one point, the fish was bringing him towards another boat, which also had a fish. Being unable to do anything, we watched and were amazed when both vessels and fish made it past each other.

It was clear he had a monster so we motored over and I offered him a hand. We managed to approach on the fish-free side and I jumped from one boat to the other and gave him a break. After a bit, I needed one too, so he took back over. He got the beast up to the surface, and I gaffed it (it was the first time I've ever gaffed a fish-I didn't warn him ahead of time). We had to borrow a second gaff from my brother, who motored it over, and we got the tail tied off, the fish bled, and the thing in the boat. I made the jump back to my brother's boat and we all headed in.

After we got it home, it took another five hours to cut it up and turn it all into steaks, which we've been giving away all day.






Probably about 300 lbs.

I've never eaten sushi so I tried this stuff.

I don't know what the fuss is about.
