yay, hand weed removal  :P

every try this? http://www.pyganic.com/

not that specific product...

I prefer to avoid commercially prepared stuff.

We've discussed the 'organic' requirements of gubmint sponsored programs.

They really dumbed it down IMO.

We have a challenge with stripes...

We got the CPBs early so they're not an issue.

Now it's time for Japanese beetles....

Yay.

I planted pumpkins in an old compost pile that milkweed got in to.

Now that they're vining...

It may not have been an excellent choice. :P

They're the size of condors. :P

Yeah...We have them. They like corn...and sunflowers...and anything green that grows. ;)

Yeah, you should see some of the training videos we use about them. The were shot in the south pacific, where they can catch about 1000 in a single trap in a day. Scary stuff.

They use milky spore to control the grubs around here, but the bastids fly in as you know.

We just try to grow healthy plants that can stand some insect stress and control them as best we can with organic methods.

There's no way you can eliminate them, nor should we IMO.

I disagree, but then again, eradicating invasive pest is my livelihood.  [laugh]

Have you tried mesh netting? I want to run some experiments with it when I plant my garden next year.

We'll never agree about it, but that's OK... It's all about balance, and the area you're in is unbalanced as far as the sheer size of the agricultural area. The real problem is societal.

Netting will work for the flyers I think, but might exacerbate the problems with soil hiders.

I used floating row covers on melons once. It worked well, but you always had to monitor for stripes....the little bastids.

T has done a great job with insects this year so far.  [thumbsup]

now I really have to go. :P

Yeah keep some out, keep some in.  How do you feel about soil steam injection as a sterilizer? I plan to do subterranean boxes filled with sterilized media to battle the problem.

Take a few pictures of your garden if you would, Id like to see it.
