well I'm not bothering to go in
only got a little sleep
decided to check on the basement last night around 11 and found a foot and a half of water with both pumps going full bore.
That much means the motor on the boiler is in the water.  [bang]
Killed power to that even though the motor obviously had already tripped and went out to see where the hell the third pump I have is.
It was out in the garage with its hose full of ice and stuck in a puddle of ice.
Got it free with my little heat gun.
Dragged it all into the basement and because of the ice in the hose all I could get out it was a trickle, but knew that means it would eventually be good.

put the hose out the bilko door and went to drain the 40 deg water out my boots.

checked on it a bit later and a nice flow coming from this pump and the water level was dropping very slowly.
checked again at 3am and the motor was now back out of the water
checked again a half hour ago and back down t just a wet floor
reset the motor, turned on the power, crossed my fingers and the boiler started up, smoky as hell but it went.  [thumbsup]
I wear my waders when that happens.

aha....  (Cellars are pretty much unheard of in this part of the world - ceptin' beneath pubs  ;D).  Doesnt having a door somewhat flush with the adjacent ground leave your cellar somewhat prone to flooding if its been piss-pouring down ???

It's unusual that the water enters through the bulkhead door, although it does happen.

Typically it enters through the foundation wall or up through the floor due to improper drainage.

Morning all!  I think we escaped any floodwaters - most of living quarters are on the second and third floors (my daughter's room and the bikes are on the first) - but luckily everything seemed fine this morning.

Hope everyone has a chance to dry out today.
Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing; however, they can still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

My house is pretty old (build somewhere around 1900, can't seem to get reliable records on it) so it has a a foundation made of stacked fieldstone.
Up until about 10 years ago, it didn't seem to get too much water infiltration but we had a whopper of a storm after a fairly bad winter and it flooded pretty heavy at around a foot of water.
That's when I bought the larger submersible pump to act as a backup for the pedestal style one that has been done there for who knows how long.
Last year I filled in a lot of the spots where water seemed to come in most and drylocked everything. That brought it back to the days of not much coming in, until these last two storms with yesterday/last night being way too much.

The drylock actually works?
I did three heavy coats, it did make a huge difference plus it made it look less dungeon like down there.

I could see that.

Two houses ago had a stone wall basement.

Pain in the ass to apply to a stone wall as opposed to a block wall though.

Ever work with that stuff? It's like toothpaste with sand in it, Nate will probably correct me but it doesn't seem great for spraying.

I was thinking of one of those electric sprayers you put in a 5gal bucket.
