I have also one whit an officer (after passing through a red light, ok it really changed to red in the last second but still red it was..):
Officer: "Do you know why I stopped You?"
Me: "Yes, I was going to slow."
Officer: "Excuse me?"
Me: "If I rode 70, I've passed with the light still green.."
Officer: "Get lost!" (laughing..)

Like that.   [clap]   Gonna have to remember that one.

OK - this one puzzled me.  My husband and I pulled into the local Honda dealership, each on our monsters, and one of the salesmen said to us... "you looking to buy a sport bike?"  I looked at him and said... "those are our Ducati's outside" and he said "yeah, I saw you ride up on them".
WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN?  Are our bikes NOT sport bikes?   HELLO!!!!

I think he meant a bike with fairings ... for him, that's a sport bike.

No fairings = "open to definition"

i like to think of monsters as a "standard" bike.  not to say its not special, but rather the contrary.

our bikes are a "standard" cut of beef.  aka steak.

sportbikes are the hotdogs.  you get more dogs for the money but some of us just have taste...    ;D

edit..
i love me some steak...but i wouldn't mind an 848 hotdog now and then.

But, for today's kids, if it has fairings is a sport bike, if it has fairings and a tall windscreen, is a tourer and if it has ONLY 2 cylinders in a V configuration is a CHOPPER ...

You're saying a Multistrada with a DP Touring windscreen is a chopper?!

Are you making some sort of distinction between an L configuration and a V configuration? Where would a Moto Guzzi Norge fit?

Incidentally, I always think of the typical chopper as having no fairings at all, no windscreen, and being utterly useless for touring.

According to Navy regulation, our Monsters are in fact sport bikes and not standards.  In order to ride on base you must take a rider safety course, and because the foot pegs place your feet below you and not in front, they are classified as "sport"   And honestly...what did you expect going to a Honda dealership? They make a CBR with tribal flames for chirst sake...how could you expect them to recognize a monster for what it is??
