Are they that much worse than all the other horrible insurance companies?

Got the okay from the wife to trade the Monster and get an 848. Then I got a quote from my insurance company and it is through the roof. Geiko for those who want to know. I have a couple tickets on record. I just have liability on the monster because its paid off and its a 97. The liability costs something like 25 bucks a month. Full coverage for the 848 would cost around 500 bucks a month. Talk about getting my bubble popped. Guess I'm gonna have to do some insurance shopping. And yes I believe insurance is a legal scam. Little bit upset right now.

Jon - no doubt the 848 is a fine bike, and I'd like to have one myself. I resist the temptation simply because I've had crotch rockets before and it is really hard to ride them slow. If I got another I would have a suspended license in no time, something that neither you or I can afford.

My advice is to keep the Monster - still lots of fun and easier to ride slower.

You do have a very valid point Greg.  But they are so pretty.

Excellent  [evil]. There's still hope for me yet.

Hey Swampy, just walk out your door, face North, then go move to the state directly to your left and I think you will find something other than swampthing.

Seriously guys and gals, give State Farm a chance if you haven't already.  Yes I have multiple cars/bikes/house through them and have for almost 18 years, but motorcycles are so reasonable with them.  I have never been over $28 a month for full coverage on a bike and I am just shy of 35 years old.  Clean record other than a crash and ticket that are both years old now.  My 08 Thruxton (I know, it is no 848) costs me 25 a month with full coverage and medical.  My 99 monster I just bought is 18 a month for full coverage and medical.

Why is it that I just realized the bacon animation was bacon?  I have thought it was carots until now.  I am a noob. [bacon]

TAftonomos

Geico for me.  Was $400 a year for full coverage, 250 deducts on the 999, S4R, and the KTM.  [thumbsup]

Take the MSF?

I like the way State Farm is set up in South Carolina.....they go strictly by displacement and not  the category of bike. All bikes 750ccs and under are one basic fee and all of them over 750ccs are another, slightly higher, fee. My Paso, the 748, and the GSX-R750 have the same liability monthly cost around $18/mo +/-$3. The 748 with full coverage is around $30/mo. The Harley, both ST2's, M900ie, and the R1 have liability right at the same cost as the smaller bikes, but full coverage is $35-$40 per month.

I've been looking at the 848 and 1098 (1198), and if going by insurance costs, I may as well get a 1098 (1198) as they are the same as the 848.....Hmmm.....I wonder how much an exotic like a Bimota DB-5R would be. I'm sure they'd have to charge more.

I need something faster than your bike.   [evil]  I just want something newer.  My bikes got some miles on it ya know.  It just turned 36,000 yesterday.  I'll wait and see what happens.  The owner of KCI owes me a favor or two so I may try to cash in on that.  Still debating it.  Don't necessarily want a bike payment and I sure as hell don't want that insurance premium.  Just because it goes fast doesn't mean I have to ride it fast.

The problem with that FOR ME is that I have a really good auto/homeowner insurance company, USAA. Unforunately, they write polies through Progressive who is REDICULOUSLY high. I called State Farm and they will only write a bike policy if you have a major policy with them already such as auto/homeowner...

Besides Greg, I still need that new clutch. Wouldn't mind if there was a new bike wrapped around it.  ;D
