Sooo, I was changing the battery on my bike and dropped a screw somewhere into my bike.  I've tried kinda shaking it back and forth and I've searched with a flashlight but it's totally missing.  My question is, if I say make the beast with two backs it and forget about it, am I going to regret it later?!?

Was there anything open it could have fallen into?

Potentially yes.  If your bike is an air-cooled motor, I've dropped screws and found the majority at the front of the base of the vertical cylinder, or wedged in the fins on the top of the horizontal cylinder.

Both places are likely candidates for where it's 'hiding'.  Also, check the rest of the area you were working in...as it may have jumped ship and be lying on the ground nearby.

If I could only get back 1/2 the time I spent looking for bolts that were on the floor instead of on the bike.  [roll]

Get a telescoping magnet. Autozone has then usually right near the registar. I'm a fan of magnet on a string for things with bends.

If you were NAKID (the person...not the state of being) it would have burried itself into the back tire instantly.  Look there.

I had the gas tank lifted up when I dropped it but there wasn't anything "open" for it to fall into...I've searched the floor, everywhere.  That's what I get for trying to hold the gas tank up while screwing the battery in and hold screws at the same time...

When I was working on my monster in the parking lot outside CA-Cycleworks I dropped a screw and it found its way into a tiny nook between the veritcal and horizontal heads. That took me forever to get it out.  [roll]

I wish getting it out was my problem...I can't even find the damn thing.  It doesn't help that everything in the bike is the exact same color as the screw  [roll]

Well if I don't find it, what are the repurcussions of leaving it wherever it is?
