He couldn't coach that group - they needed a change. You see this stuff in hockey all the time.
Nobody could coach that group. Yeah, there were injuries this year, but there was also a dearth of young talent. Trading young talent and top draft choices isn't the way to build a team since the cap came in.

Anyway, congrats 'Hawks - you get the privilege of being Detroit's next sacrificial lamb.

my closest team is the avs development team (Lake Erie Monsters). Those guys are VERY poorly coached, but Joe Sacco was tapped to be the asst. coach for team USA this cycle. Go figure.

I'm the furthest thing from a Wings fan, but I think someone should get a suspension for that spinning elbow. A bit uncalled for.

I am a wing fan, but I'm a bigger fan of consistency in these kinds of cases. A suspension is completely warranted and won't happen. Every fan thinks the officials are against their team, but the wings do get more than their share of bad calls and non-calls. This will be another one.

I disagree. The Wings have some world class floppers, for one, and then there's Holmstrom, who's made an entire career out of goalie interference - without it, he'd be in Sweden right now. Every team gets good and bad calls their way.
A suspension on that elbow would be warranted in the regular season, but in the playoffs, with a Game 7 coming up? I'm ok with letting it go. There are plenty of cheap shots coming from both sides.

Holmstrom also has the rep and gets called quite often when he never touched the goalie, so that argument is a wash.  As for the Wings not getting calls, all you have to do is go back to the finals last season.  The refs were doing their damndest to keep the Pens in the series.  Quite similar to the Ducks series, especially tonight.  Although, they did give one to the Wings.  The game winner could have possibly been disallowed.  But it wasn't and the better team ended up winning and the Dicks can go home think up more ways to get in cheap shots next season.

Awesome finish to the Canes/Bruins game. I reset the votes again, even though I know you will all vote for the Wings.

Go Hawks!

Doubt we'll agree on this issue, but I saw plenty of penalties let go on both sides last night, including 2 clear-cut cases of boarding and a couple of hooks by Detroit. But, again, they were letting it go on both sides. Great game by both teams. Anaheim wasted some more magnificent play by Hiller.
