Like I said before, the road to the cup goes through Detroit...too bad the Pens will only get a look of it from the dressing room on the TV's.

Sorry, but Detroit in 6-7...unless the league thinks Crosby should have it now. (Thats what we wings fans will use as the excuse)

Go Pens!

I don't know why I can't like Detriot-maybe it's because everyone out here likes Detroit because they are always winning (kinda like the Lakers), so I want to go against the bandwagon.

Oh, and Crosby is awesome.

Anyone who's been a wings fan since the 1980s or before has my respect. Back when they were the "Dead Things", they could barely draw flies. I've heard the wings described as a "traveling Hall of Fame exhibit". I think that's pretty accurate for the wings of the last few years.

I've never heard the Wings described like that, but I agree.  They're just the bandwagon team around here for people who don't really know/watch hockey.

I absolutely would go see the Wings play though-they truely are a "traveling Hall of Fame exhibit".

Let's hope the Illitch's never sell the Wings.  Quite a remarkable run since they bought the team in the mid-80s.   [thumbsup]

Mike Illitch, after Steve Yzerman, is the best thing to ever happen to the Red Wings.  I've been a Wings fan since 86.  I remember the bad old days all too well.  Of course, I like to think I got spoiled in the late 90's and the bad old days continued again after 2002 up until last year.

the 85-86 season for me too!

I do love what that pizza slinging bastard has done for the sport and for the team. He deserves to be in the HHOF, as does Ken Holland.

No Illitch as owner = No Yzerman in Detroit.

I wouldn't call their struggles after '02 as the bad old days.  They did make the playoffs each year, after all.

Yeah, I know, but they were getting booted in the first or second round.  Like I said, I was spoiled.

Did anyone else get the Ted Lindsay and Gordie Howe books Olympia Entertainment put out? Terrible Ted is one of my heroes and my all time favorite hockey player, but both books have lots of good Red Wings lore in them. My wife bought me the Gordie Howe book for my birthday and got him to autograph it at a game at the Joe. Pretty awesome stuff.

That's a good wife right there.  Mine will watch hockey with me, but I know she doesn't enjoy it as much as I do.

yeah, she's the best (even if she is a Sabres fan).

I can't wait to see Crosby get his ass handed to him before this series is over, preferably by Kronwall.  He crosschecked Zetterberg in the back of the head and whacked Maltby after the game was over.  Everybody was talking about the Penguins being more mature this year but he seemed to be acting like a petulant child that didn't get his way.

It was worse if you watched the NBC sports.com isocam. Crosby was chirping to the officials after just about every whistle. A couple times his teammates skated up to him and he ignored them to talk to the officials.

Oh, you mean the cameras they had on the 2 Penguins "superstars?"  Because the Red Wings are a team of second-rate hacks, right?  I've got 2 words for NBC, and they aren't "thank you."
