Since you don't look like a vagrant, I would not worry about it.

That's a matter of opinion.

How's come this got moved to nmc?

This directly applies to anyone looking to take a long ride on their moto. . .

Sorry to hear of your trouble ML.   >:(

our MC stopped working a couple of months back due to lots of times at the pump.  Had to call & tell them we ride motorcycles, and to allow the transactions to go through for my card and hubbys at the same stations.

Then at Deal's Gap, they put it on hold for fraud alert.  Seems we were far from home, and buying beer & gas at the gas station sent up red flags (Or maybe it was swampduc.  not sure [laugh])

Now it's on hold again.  Got new cards in the mail this past week (had to call anyone who was holding our reservation with that credit card), and they've stopped already.

I aprreciate their diligence, but dammit! this is a PITA.

So yeah, +1 backup credit card, plus a debit card.
Frickin' snow!

+1

I've experienced the gas station CC freeze, and most recently they called my old-old-old place of work to verify a new MacBook Pro I just ordered.  [bang]

While I appreciate their protection, it's still annoying going to the grocery store and having your card denied because of their "fraud protection".

Oh, and cash was denied in a recent Apple store visit. Credit cards only (maybe checks, but who pays with those in store anymore?).

unfortunately, in some places its good policy TO deny cash.

if you don't accept cash, its hard to have any on hand that somebody might want to steal. or rob you of.

Pull out a dollar bill and read what it says on the front. "Legal tender for all debt, public and private."

Think about what it that means.

It is legal to use that money to satisfy debts. It is not required. It is not illegal to refuse it.

Like when the gas station says no to your $100 bill. Or how the UPS man won't accept cash for COD.

then turn around and walk out the door while explaining how the place down the street will get your business, because they do take cash.

^ good advice.

but why not put it on a cc that gives cash back, and make an immediate payment since you have the cash? earn a few bucks of cash back rewards, or frequent flyer miles, or whatever in the process

next time someone declines to accept cash will be the first time for me.
but if they do, i am going to write a check on the back of a dunkin donuts napkin and pay that way.
If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

Yup-that's legally valid, assuming they also accept it.

AS far as denying cash, I would never go back. I prefer using the green stuff.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

some airlines now require cash for in-flight food or beverage purchases.
