I hate when people that are interested in/ dabble in/ have a hobby in art/music try to act like they can appreciate art or music (and we are talking plain old POP, top 40 sheeaaaaat) more then then the "average" joe. Unless you are producing music that I hear on the radio you are just another consumer.

we call these people "elitist" or "snob"
a lot of the people my g/f hangs out with are music snobs.

beck is one of those people. nothing you can say or do will break him out of his little world in which he knows everything and MJ is a god..sorry, a GOD.


i also have a problem with anyone being called a king of anything.

I'm the right demographic to like MJ. I was in 3rd grade when thriller was huge. I also played guitar semi-professionally for about a decade. If we're going to have a dick measuring contest over subjective opinions, I wanted to throw a bit of reality down before I unzipped. LOTS OF MUSIC PEOPLE HATED HIM AND HIS MUSIC. IT'S SUBJECTIVE.

I'm also of the right age to be influenced by MJ. I'm also a musician, having played several instruments growing up...and having played in bands throughout college and for several years afterwards. My wife even thinks I'm a music snob! 

I am not now, and never was, a fan of MJ. Most of my musician friends feel the same way. The ones that do like his music don't think he was a "king" of anything.

I also don't like The Grateful Dead. Whatever.

I was impacted more by Kurt Cobain's death...and even that didn't make me sad since I didn't know the guy (just liked his music). I just thought it was a bummer there wouldn't be any more Nirvana albums.

Music is subjective Beck. None of us that don't like MJ are "wrong".

It took a while for Karma to catch up, and he got lucky at the trial.   To paraphrase Chris Rock, if 1 person says you are touching kids, well maybe you are or aren't, but if 50 people say it, you are a child molester.

And worse than that, Ed McMahon won't ever show up with the prize van  in my driveway.  Now that is sad.
