Steering Damper: side mount v. top mount

I have been checking the forum regarding steering dampers (thanks for the posts, especially Somegirl's review). I am narrowing down my decision, but am curious on any input regarding location. Would you recommend a side-mount unit or a top-mount damper?

I personally like top mount for the look, ease of adjustability on the fly and it is more protected in the event of a crash. They both work though!

I've been told it works a lot better on the side.
It's more in direct/rigid contact with the parts it's damping.
Top mount kits have some flex in the brackets(?)
Also, the top mounts are shorter - maybe longer is better...

Side mounts can damage the frame in a crash (FHE). I always use a transverse, under the triple design.

Having had a side mount come loose under normal driving, I will never mount one there again.

top mounts for me!

One problem that I see, is that if you ever go to an after-market top triple, you are pretty much stuck with going side mount. I know I've seen the under "brace" style, wish someone would post I pic. That is what I will go with if I ever get one.

I mount one end to the frame and the other to a clamp around the fork leg. You can weld or drill for a frame mount and then space it 'til it lines up with the leg mount. I can take some pics it that'll help.
Always make sure the adjustment is on the left side so can make changes on the fly.

i like the top idea most. kind of sucks if i ever get a new top triple though.
