But the classic gated manual has to be an option for the faithful.

I think the 911 is a dated design and would be a much better car if they made it a mid engine.  They would have to lose the rear seats if you can call them that but they could keep the same profile.  In my opinion the Cayman is a much better driving car and Porsche would win more races if they had a mid engine GT3 type car.
I believe the 550 was a mid engine car the was homologated for the road and racing.

They sure won a lot of races with the 917 !.....1200 hp, mid engine, turbo charged.

Mark Donahue set a number of track speed records with that car , like 240 mph in it's day.

Lest we forget the venerable GT1 that won the 24 hours of Le Mans in it's 1st attempt as a mid engine car.

If that happens, and I don't think it will, then its time for me to look for a new job.  The Cayenne makes up half the cars we sell and service.  The Panamera will open up a huge new market for us, I think most of our allotment for 2010 has been pre sold already.  Porsche is a car manufacturer and they will build what sells.

If that is the case , I guess I probably won't be getting a Panamera the 1st year.

Better get on the list for as soon as possible.

Remember the fuss the Porsche Pyles made when the 911 went from an air cooled engine to the present day water cooled one ?

They said it ruined the sound that made the 911 partly what it was about.

In my opinion I'd like to see a mid engine 911.

But then you have to associate with people like this:  [cheeky]

Wanted: Friends!!! - m4mm - 32 (marina / cow hollow)

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/stp/1358334612.html

Just moved back to the best neighborhood in the world, the MARINA, and am looking to meet some new friends with whom I can HANG. I appreciate the finer things in life….. think:

Gucci loafers
Paper Denim (though sometimes I'll drop Seven Jeans on some fools)
Ralph Lauren Black Label
Sea Smoke
Chicken Paillard
2/20
Toro
Mercedes S-Class all day. Valet only.

What I am looking for is people to drink with me during the week. I like hanging out at Balboa Cafe (I have my own table, and the servers know me by name), and sometimes by the fire at Matrix. I will pay for all the drinks and lamb pops with my Platinum. I just need some friends to hang out with and listen to me. I mostly like to talk about myself and my possessions, but will occasionally be willing to let you talk, but usually only if you talke about me, or how cool I am.

I've had 13 Porsches and never hung out with any other Porsche types. I wouldn't like being around the person described in this post.

I like fast bikes and fast cars and I like to go fast. I like to road race.......me against the road ...or against some other person willing to race.

It's like me and my " R ."

I get on it and go ride by myself and usually never even talk to anybody when I'm on it and only about 5 people outside this Forum know I even have it.

It's my thing and it doesn't make me better than other riders  ( except those that don't ride Ducatis ).  ;D

True.  Going to the water cooled engine, the 911 did seem to loose a lot of the character & soul, but how could they compete in the market by staying air-cooled?

That would make it a Cayman, wouldn't it?  ;D

911 = rear-engine
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

Meh. Chop the top a bit. The windows are a little out of proportion with the rest of the car.  I love Dino's, 360's & F40/F50's. Most of Ferrari designs are really nice, but only a few really do it for me.  Mechanically they rock obviously, I would never turn down a Ferrari that some one wanted to give me - even the 400.
This has been about 8-9 years ago , whenever the 360 1st came out .

I was talking to the Service Mgr. of the Porsche- Ferrari- Maserati Dept., I had my Porsche in for something and I remember him telling me the 1st service for the 360 Ferrari was like $3200.

I used to go back in the Service area and I saw more late model Ferraris with no engines in them that were in for service , complete dashes out from where the Techs were looking for electrical gremlins.

Back then the shop rate was $120 per hour.

I was lucky to have a great relationship with the GM at the Dealership and I had bought over 20 cars from the same Salesman over a 15 year time frame , so one Saturday the Salesman gave me the keys to a Ferrari 465 GT that the Factory had dropped at the Dealership for a couple of days for Demo use.

I got to semi abuse it for an hour out on some nice two lane low traffic roads.

I can tell you, if some one gave you a Ferrari , more than likely it would eat your wallet with insurance and maintenance costs.
