Yes and no.

If it's had new belts (recommended every 12,000 miles or 2 years) and a valve job (every 6,000 miles), and none of its rockers are flaking, then it's a steal.

If not...

Flaking rockers weren't really an issue in the testastretta engines.

Meh, that's not so far outta line.  The 996 and the 748 were the least desirable of the Tamburini superbikes.  An original 1995/1996 916 or a 998 for that price would be too good to be true.  Clean examples fetch closer to $10k.

Here's a 996S monoposto from a reputable dealer for not much more than that eBay ad:
http://www.turn2motorcycles.com/Vehicle/location-Portland-Oregon-carsforsale/47518/1999-DUCATI-996S-Monoposto.aspx

Turn2 is the used bikes division of Ron Tonkin MotoCorsa, which is the biggest Ducati dealer in Oregon.  They also had a slightly higher-mile 996 in there a month ago for right around $7k.

WTF x2:

Hypermotard engine, bored to 102 mm makes it 1178 cc, puts up 117 hp at the rear wheel $22000
2 mm oversize titanium valves
ported heads
NCR cams
Balanced crankshaft
Fresh crankshaft bearings
Yoyodyne slipper clutch

$22k for a motor?

Custom made aluminium breather box (under subframe) $8000

Say what?

I'd believe $22k for a motor... if he hired it out to a bigtime Ducati shop and just wrote checks.  C'mon, you all know how much money those internals cost, plus labor for custom porting/polishing/machining, plus labor for skilled assembly.  It gets expensive quick.  However, to hit $22k, I think there'd have to be a lot more parts and custom machining in that motor than he lists.

What I don't believe is $8000 for a custom aluminum breather box.  If he paid that, he got ripped off.  I wonder if he typo'd and that's supposed to say $800.

I'd be quite happy with the box-stock DB5R here in Portland with 3100 miles on it:
http://www.turn2motorcycles.com/Inventory/Make/BIMOTA.aspx

$18,999 sale price.  Was $19,999 last time I was in there.  That's really reasonable considering what it is and how much it cost new.  If I had the cash, it'd be mine.  I'm about $10k shy, and the toys Mrs. duc_fan would allow me to sell aren't enough to make up the difference.  We don't do loans on toys, either.  Gotta be cash or trade.

 Wink

Never said he got a good deal, just that it's easily possible to rack up that much on a build.

One of my points of interest as well. Probably made from hyper compressed Italian blood cells and spaghetti.
