"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

In the right hands, it's a great start. Unfortunately, I'm not the right hands.

Here's one I want.  Not ironically, seriously.  But I can't afford it, so if anyone wants one, game on.
http://madison.craigslist.org/mcy/4050574538.html

1975 Norton Commando 850 twin. Sweet bike, starts and runs great, good tires.

Everything has been gone through, everything is in great shape. Electronics have been upgraded to solid state.

Right side shift (suicide shift). Has only had 2 owners in it's life, both in our family. Only selling it because my father-in-law can no longer kick start it, and is ready for a push button motorcycle.

Clean Title - have original owners manual.

Call or text Karl at 406-5two9- 343six. or email

Bike is located in Oshkosh but I often travel to Baraboo.

So I just got my class M a few months ago. The plan was to get a scooter, specifically I was looking at a Piaggio. After realizing you can't get out of my suburb without doing 55 for long stretches, I chucked the idea and got the Monster.

I do wonder, however, if I even noticed this bike when I went to the Piaggio dealer. I knew nothing about Ducatis at the time...

Very nice bike. You said you just got your M license. I don't know if that means you are new to motorcycles entirely or not, but if you are that particular monster with the 998 superbike engine might not be the place to start your riding career.

You might want to start with something like this instead.

or this.

or this.

The first two are 750 2 valve engines and the last one is a 900 2 valve which makes more power. All of them will do over 55 in second gear as will the 4 valve engined bike you were looking at. But these three do it a bit more gently. You will probably find that the bikes with the smaller less powerful engines still have all the power you need. If you are new to motorcycles you would be doing yourself a favor by not getting something too fast. You can always step up later.

The three bikes I posted happen to be for sale right here on this board in the bikes for sale section.

Maybe he does and I should have looked. But then what does he need with a moped and how did he not know about Ducati?

I figure if you see an accident waiting to happen it might be a good idea to prevent it. Anyway Ive said my piece.

Hey no problem, thanks for the advice! I bought the 696 after I gave up on the scooter. I bought it because after doing my research it looked like the best bike for beginners that would actually last me a while.

So of course I'm looking at an S4RS three months later  droollaughingdp

Your point is well made and well taken  waytogo

The 696 is also a good choice and it should serve you well for a good long time.
These days my one and only bike is a 750. I sold the 998 Superhawk because I was going to fast with it on the street. The power was intoxicating  laughingdp but I knew one day when I was going warp 6 there was going to be a rock, or a tree, or a deer and maybe I should slow it it down just a bit. The 750 is still fast enough to get a guy killed that isn't paying attention though.
