Copy is a pretty strong word. Are the parts interchangeable?

The RevTech engine's design is a copy of the HD Evo engine.  It can not be stated in any other terms without distorting the fact.

Point taken, let's say it like this. Aftermarket engine builder puts their version of a Chevy 350 into some other car. Does that now make the car a Chevy because it has a copy of a Chevy engine in it? Of course not...

+1. Unless they ordered the engine from H-D, or removed it from an H-D, then its not an H-D. Its certainly a V-Twin. Or perhaps, H-D based, but not an H-D.

OK, I was just paraphrasing. Of course I know it isn't an actuall HD. But it is obviously HD based. Jeez  [laugh]

Not sure what you mean by that.  It is not an accusation that the RevTech engine's design is copy of the HD Evo engine.  It is a fact.  For that matter, S&S, Ultima and a several other companies produce engines which are copies of the HD Evo engine design.  How else should I word it?   I doubt parts are interchangeable from an 80 ci Evo engine and a one of the RevTech engines.  RevTech makes engines ranging from 88ci to 125 ci.

I did not say anything derogatory about RevTech as a company.  I'm sure that has been covered plenty of times on Harley forums.

You're missing my point. Putting an HD engine, real or copy, does not make the bike a HD.

I think the phrase once used to describe these crate engines, like those from RevTech and S&S, is "clone".

But really, you guys are in danger of picking the fly shit out of the pepper here.

Having said that, I think it safe to say, univocally, that had this bike been built with an S&S X-Wedge mill it would have nothing HD about it.

In any event, Ben Hur coulda used that spikey primary cover-thingie in the chariot race.

Yea, I'm not a fan of the primary cover. Sticks out way to far. The rest of the bike, the body and frame work I really like.

I get that.  I didn't realize I had made so many posts on this thread subject.  Sorry if I drew this out.  I thought you were missing my point.

As a life long HD guy, I've neve cared for these types of customs, yet this one does have some nice aspects to it.  The black helps of course.

Seriously? So what you're saying is you'd rather buy one right off the showrrom floor that they claim to be a new model when all it really is is old technology in a warmed over leftover that they threw the parts bin at and has is a different fender and a different paint scheme?

Do I have that right?  [laugh]

I'd rather have the custom. Take a good look. It has a lot of higher end components than the standard HD.
I've been wallowing in my own chaotic and insecure delusions.
