Well guys, after a couple of brief work stops there in DC, it seems I am finally making my way there permanently.  I won't be making the move until closer to summer, but wanted to reach out sooner rather than later.  And with that in mind, does anyone know of any nice apartments coming up for rent around say Junish?  I haven't found out exactly where I will be working yet, but figure it will either be out near McLean, WNY or down near Belvior.  With that in mind, I will probably be looking for something in Arlington or Alexandria area as they are fairly equidistant.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Also, where are you guys meeting up now that Rhodeside is gone?

Slide Panda

WNY?  What's that?

Rhodeside isn't gone... that was just a nasty linguistic trick Tim was playing. Things have been quiet recently since the weather's been such shit. But I'd expect cabin fever to get people moving soon

Congrats! I'm on the wrong side of the beltway to be much help in the housing department.  I do make it to Rhodeside on occasion.....

So do you guys still meet down during the warm season?

my guess is, the regulars will fall into their old ways of meeting up down there....

as far as the 3 duty assignments...they all suck as far as commuting...so you are foooked anywhichaway....unless you land a nice pad on Pentagon City or something and move against traffic...or work off rush hour hours....

anyways....just think of the access to a variety of riding roads as apposed to doing loops around the island dodging coconuts!

Ive got a buddy renting his place at The Commons of Arlington, 2 bedroom, 1 bath, new floors, new kitchen, new bath, new windows, first floor garden apartment.  $1,675. South Walter Reed and South 13th Road are the cross streets.  Its for rent now is the only problem.

DRKWNG

Sounds like a pretty nice place.  Any idea if the place has/had a garage?  I would ideally like to find a place with a secure spot to keep the bikes...

rgramjet

No garage.

Barcroft apartments at Columbia and George Mason has 1-2-3 bedroom places and optional garages.  Dont know if there is a waiting list for the garages.

Barcroft is my neck of the woods FWIW. Finding a place with a garage might be a trick. The older building in the area won't have them. So look for newer construction, since they have to have garage parking.

So, on average how active is this local "chapter"?

Slide Panda

Quite if someone takes the initiative to put something forth. The region DOC is based in the DC metro area, so there's regular club rides and otehr associated events.

When/if the weather turns warm again, I'm sure there will be some tire kicking evenings to be had.

Due to the pace of life in DC, we can be a bit... Hey SQUIRREL!.. distracted. But generally it's a social bunch. And if you ever need help with a project, you can generally count on a couple volunteer helpers.

If you end up down in south Arlington, I've got a pretty beefy set of tools that can handle just about any Duc job.

That would be sweet!  One of the perks of being down here, one of our own is the front end manager of an independent BMW auto repair shop and we usually have access to using his garage on the weekends to knock out projects.

Got got most of the shade tree stuff - wrenches of all shapes and flavors, sockets, clutch tool, stands for a DSS bike etc etc. No enclosed space (yay arlington life) but I got tools...

Ok, finally found out that I will be working in Bethesda, at least for the first year or so.  Then the job's location will change to the new campus that is being built down close to Springfield.  So with that in mind, looks like I will be trying to find an apt in Arlington/Alexandria.  Anyone know of a decent spot opening up between Crystal City and Old Town, preferably somewhat close to the metro line?

Slide Panda

I haven't been in the markets for a while so nothing off the top of my head. But there's a lot  of places to look. You'll want to focus on places that have ready access to the blue line. Rosslyn is the last stop for the blue in Arlington.

Might look in:
pentagon city area
crystal city sections of Arlington they are both on the blue
