The Saga Continues...
«
on:
June 02, 2008, 11:13:20 AM »
Finally made the decision this past weekend. I decided to get the '06 Sport 1K that's currently living in Santa Fe. I came into work today all excited to let the guy know I'd be getting my money organized and we needed to figure out a date for pickup.
Then I checked my email.
He was taking it out for a spin yesterday to keep the battery up and a guy pulled a U-turn across 4 lanes of traffic, cutting him off in the process. Most importantly, he's totally fine.
As for the bike, at first glance it looks to have mostly cosmetic damage, but he won't be sure until it gets to the shop tomorrow morning. I see two sides to this.
One - If it's mostly cosmetic, I can get it for a song.
Two - If the frame's tweaked..well, time to look for another bike.
Sigh....

Shoot, I'm going to Santa Fe next week with the wifely unit. I could have "test ridden" it on the high road to Taos just to make sure it's OK while Jen stayed in town and shopped. Nothing is too much to help out a fellow Forum member!!
Really sorry for the dude's crash, glad he's OK. Also sorry you have to start looking again but at least you have made a decision about which bike to look for. [moto]

Dumbass, ever hear of a battery tender?
Glad he is okay, but if you are going to sell something, never, NEVER take the chance of something going wrong.

I think he just wanted to take it out a time or two more. He really likes the bike, but I think he's thinning the stable.

The bike should be insured. Even if the "other guy" isn't at fault (which he should be) then the sellers insurance should pay for repairs.
If he's taking it to the Ducati dealership where he bought it, which he should, then they will write up a complete estimate.
You could stay in touch directly with the dealer.

That's the plan. I have their contact info as well. I'm working all the angles.

I've pretty much given up on the bike in Santa Fe. I think it just wasn't meant to be. Was wondering if everyone could help me compose a list of sites to keep checking for one. So far, my regular list is:
Craigslist - Various cities
eBay - of course
AMS - Used and Pre-owned section
Anything else?

Ryan,
There is a 2006 Sports 1000 for sale in the "other bikes" section of this board that sounds pretty cool. Don't know where the seller is, his profile doesn't disclose his whereabouts. He says it's been worked on by a shop in Michigan but who knows where the owner actually lives. It would make Alan D very happy if you bought it since it's yellow!! [moto]

In addition to watching at AMS, here's a couple other local shops to keep in mind.

There is a demo '07 SC biposto at euro FW for 10495 and two demo SCs at euro Plano
Also, at AMS there are two Paul smarts ( 1 for 10 and 1 hotted up for 20 ) as well as a smoking hot carbon MH900e for 17.
Good day to have extra cash...

Is the MH900 new over at AMS? I haven't seen that over there. But I want to.
