"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

PCA is very interesting for some uses but the big problem for me is that they are not reloadable which means they are junk.  Even berdan steel case stuff is spellable for scrap.

I wonder what the weight is compared to brass

The 5.56 PCA is about half the weight of brass.  Definitely an advantage for the soldier.

Not to mention shipping skids of the stuff to the field.

And hot on the heels of the pistol cases...

PCA has been around for about 16years, I am not sure why this is new news.  DoD was testing 5.56 PCA when I was in Israel

Here is a pic of a Voere 22 cal caseless cartridge out of my collection.  Performance is supposed to be about like a 223.  It is electrically primed and the primer is consumed during firing.

Voere made a bolt action rifle for this round.  H&K experimented with a caseless military rifle and round for a while that fed like the FN 90 but with no ejection worries.

The major problem with these rounds is that they are a bit fragile.

fragile..

susceptible to moisture..

lower resistance to spontaneous combustion...

it's an interesting concept, but not one i'd like to carry around in a pocket

iirc, these were supposed to be able to handle a week of water immersion.  Of course that does not take into consideration agitation or abrasion, etc.  Interesting concept but not ready for prime time.

how would that translate into exposure to humidity + abuse etc.  brass or polymer cased can stand far more than a week.  definitely not ready for prime time or ever in my book.

plus, what happens when your battery dies?  too many variables.  maybe they can put a dyno crank on the rifle, like on those radios.  lol
