Took all the toys to the range today.  Blew about $100 in ammo, but good fun.  Need to start working on accurizing the M1A (standard 22"), and testing out better ammo.  This Winchester white box Nato stuff sucks.

big bullets = FUN!

And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

+2 Funny. I seem to have the same problem. [laugh]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

The only people that never miss are the ones that never shoot.

I really enjoy my Socom 16 - its plenty accurate, handy and ok on power.  The thing I like the best about it is that it is quick handling and really fast on target.  10" targets at 300 yards, sitting with cross sticks or something are real easy with the iron sights.  Adding scopes or other optics just makes the gun slower on target and less handy.

Everyone seems agog about the power of the 308.  Its certainly more than the 223 but especially out of the short barrel of the Socom, is definitely not a cannon.

I'm working on a magazine article about 308 short barrel ballistics.  The chronograph really de-myths a lot of preconceptions.

I have an older 16" M1A in a factory fiberglass woodland camo stock. I think they stuck some stupid "jungle rifle" name on it back then. Anyway, it's a great, handy little rifle with some horsepower. No optics on any M1A that I have or have ever owned. Thought about it many times but never followed through. The ARMS mount is all I ever considered but in this day and time I am sure there are many others out there.

Also, anyone ever used the 25 rnd Check-Mate brand M1A magazines that Dillon Precision offers for sale? They claim to be the same mags that are sold to the US military. I could use a few extra M1A mags and was considering giving them a try.

Love the M1As but the worse my shoulder gets the less .308 I shoot. Still wouldn't mind running into a big pack of feral hogs with an M1A. Just saying... [evil] [popcorn] ;)

25 or 20 round?  That seems like a load to have on an autoloader in that caliber.

I prefer the taiwanese 10rd mags i found a few years back (spg?) .. they are great for the range.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

They (Dillon) offer that brand of mag in 5, 20 & 25 round capacity. They claim in their catalog that the maker sells the 25 rnd mags to our military. Dillon doesn't offer crappy stuff so I assume it's good quality. Just didn't know if any DMFers have used them. It's not like I lug around a lot of 7.62 mags all day so the 25 rnd count doesn't scare me. ;D Besides I'm old and slow and have a 15 year old step son to haul all the heavy stuff for me. [laugh]

When I was in Texas last October, my partner was supposed to have some hogs lined up for me so I had the Socom, the 45-70 and the 300 Win (in case I had to shoot any in the next zip code) packed and he had nothing actually lined up.  So I went to a buddys place in New Mexico and did some 1000 yard shooting and some blasting on his 1000 acre shooting facility.

Lighting up a pack of hogs with the Socom seems like it would be way too much fun.

Best Prices for them www.44mag.com

CMI/Checkmate Industries are current prime supplier of M14 Mags to the military

Long Island NY based company. By all accounts as good as the original ones made by BRW/Win/Westinghouse/KMT etc etc during the active production/use years of the M14
This is an insult to the Pez community

Thanks! [thumbsup]

Yeppers WJ, hogs + M1A/SOCOMs would make for a hell of a party! ;D

My family has a cabin outside of Cimarron, NM and my brother and his boys love to drive up to Raton/NRA Whittington Center for long range action. Beautiful backdrop of mountains as you shoot. Hard to beat that combo!

My vision sucks too much to shoot iron sights at 100yds.   :-\

Yeah, my standard comment is maybe I could hit your ass at 500 yards (based on nothing but good luck) but I couldn't read your driver license when I got to you. [laugh] Got cheap reading glasses everywhere! ;D Screw it, at least I can still shoot and ride! [beer]
