I've been wanting to go up to Oregon to the new school and take the team tactics class with my wife.  I drove through Lakeview, Or a couple of years ago - its pretty much out in the boonies even by my standard.  We drove the 250 miles from Lakeview to Winnemucca, NV and saw 7 cars.  No place to have a breakdown.

It's nice that they still have some classes at the Texas range the first couple of months every year.

But I thought they dismantled the TX ranges and auctioned off the targets, etc. when they shut it down for the Oregon move? Still nice that the TX classes are not shot with politically correct ammo. [thumbsup] ;) A Thunder Ranch class would make a nice Christmas present. [clap] [popcorn] [bacon] Need to forward this to the wifely unit.

Can't make up my mind?

OEM rubberized grips?

pachmayr wood/rubber grips?

WarrenJ

My favorite 1911 grips are the Hogue Panel grips - they are real cheap but have great texture and just a little palm swell - I haven't found anything my hands like better.  These are not the wrap around grips, they are just simple panels, I think the cost about $10.00.  I've probably shot half a million rounds out of 1911's with those grips.

Double diamond cocobolo wood grips are the only thing classy enough to go on a 1911. Gorgeous wood! [thumbsup]

Scroll down the grip page on the Eb Brown link and there is a pic of some nice cocobolo panels.

Has anyone purchased on-line?  How was your experience?

As much as I'd like to build a relationship with the local dealers, I'm seeing the same items (identical, new-in-box) for substantially less even once shipping is factored in.

Just curious.

Thx!

Don't forget ffl costs. I've been quoted $50-$75 per gun.

Right, even with that.  I've had a couple opportunities where FFL $ + S&H still equalled $125 or more less than local retail.

I guess, while I'm on the subject... how much haggling is typical in an over-the-counter transaction with a storefront merchant?

It varies store to store.  Ask if there's any room on the price.

I was flat out told no and was ok with that as they were selling well below list already, so it was a good price for me.

Guess that depends on the store. I have friends at some gun shops that will cut me some slack but I am sure I could never haggle my way down at a big box store... Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc. Never tried but I'm just guessing.

F me, I pay $20 at my FFL.

That's hiway robbery for nothing more than 10 minutes of paperwork.

Gunbroker has a list on their site with prices stated.  Shop around.  You might have to drive further but for 30-50$ less it would be worth it.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. If you can get a really good on line price then the added transfer fee and the longer drive still might beat the regular, local store price. It's sort of similar to the local bike shop vs the big mail order/on line scooter stores... Dennis Kirk, Comp Access, etc. I like to support the local gun and bike shops but I tend to lean towards the ones that "help" me out a little. That's natural. But there are times they don't carry what I want and the on line outfits are just too hard to pass up with the better prices and availability.

I've ordered from buds guns they list FFls near your location. Found one ten minutes from my house that charged $15 per gun.  [thumbsup]
