I don't know if they make them for the Blackout, but a file trim die might be a decent low tech way to shorten and trim the cases.  I use one for making 8mm Mauser out of 30-06.  The excess neck of the case sticks out of the top of the die, which has a specially hardened top.  I use a hacksaw to zip off the gross excess and a couple file strokes brings the case right to length.  Once you get the process down, it goes pretty fast.

Huh... I wonder how hard it'd be to make one.  May be able to get away with using a generic DIY case-hardening compound.

I other gun-related news, my brother-in-law and his wife and kids were out visiting last week.  He and I celebrated the 4th by taking an assortment of my guns down into one of the valleys on the property and turning some gunpowder into heat an noise.  ;D  Had fun with the AR-15, a Benelli 12-gauge pump, a 9mm SIG, and a S&W .44 Magnum.

Always fun to burn powder.  I've been working on a bunch of load development for 44 mag, working on intermediate loads for Super Blackhawk. S&W and Win Carbine.  Load, step outside and accuracy test, repeat.  Fun except for the Deer flies and mosquitoes.  I must loose a pint a day out there.  I'm teaching 3 womens rifle classes and a intro pistol class this weekend, part of a Womens outdoor program, so I'm getting all my prep done.  Always look forward to teaching.

WJ : 44 Mag's, deer flies and women, sounds kind of scarry? [laugh]

A new shooter flailing at a deer fly buzzing around their head while holding a Super Blackhawk would be good reason to seek cover!

The classes went real well.  We were again rated the top class of the event.  Most of the women have never shot before.  I start them out on this huge 22 target rifle with a 2" Ultra Varmint Unertl scope on it on bags.  It looks big and intimidating and I have them shoot at a 6" steel plate at 100 yards.  Set up like that, it is about impossible to miss and they seldom do.  Once they realize that the big intimidating rifle wasn't scary at all and they had great success with it, transitioning to different guns and positions is pretty straightforward.  At the end, I usually have them busting milkjugs filled with water at 100 with an AR.  They come down nervous and apprehensive and in 90 minutes, leave with big smiles and a positive attitude.  Makes my day!

I used to help out with the CCW classes at my local gun club and it was fun and your right, fulfilling.  It was sometimes my job to scream as loud as I could to demonstrate how you should let an intruder know you are armed.  My how the girls jumped. [cheeky]

But they get serious even more than the guys do.

Always had good luck with women students in my old self defense/tactical shotgun courses. It was nice that they came with an open mind, no macho ego and no preconceived notions. Sure, some were apprehensive at first but like with any new shooter it's best to go slow and properly explain things... ie: dont speak to them like they are stupid, be patient and don't use shooting slang they don't understand.

My only problem was when couples would should up together. Hubby/boy friend would drag their SO with them and want to "show them how it's done". Ugh... [roll] Had the most trouble with the guys trying to undermine my instruction by telling the gals (behind my back) to do it their way, not what I just told them.

I would look up and see the women shooters holding/mounting the weapon or loading and shooting in some bizarre (sometimes dangerous) fashion and asked them what the hell they were doing. They'd point at hubby/boyfriend and say "he told me to do it this way". Ugh #2  [roll] [bang].

That was just about the time I would place them at opposite ends of the firing line and tell the guy to shut up/leave her alone and tell the gal to ignore anything he said for the rest of the class. The guys would get all puffy like I stepped on their dick but the women seemed to appreciate the comments and concern.

My favorite was seeing a women excel in handling and shooting a 12 gauge scattergun and successfully complete the class and then have a 200+ lb man not show up for the 2nd day of class because his shoulder hurt! [laugh]

Those guys got a lot of ribbing from the other students behind their back (since they weren't there ;D) and the women always received lots of props and encouragement from the class for a job well done. Always made me proud and you could see it in their faces.

I'm trying to convince my wife to take a CCW course... even if she doesn't get the permit, just to learn a little from the same instructor I learned from.  He was great.  She's not so sure, mostly because she currently has zero interest in carry outside of our property.  She'll walk all over that acreage with a 9mm, .45, or 12ga, but she's not so hot on the idea of carrying in public.  That's okay, I leave it up to her.  Everyone has to decide that one for themselves.

She's a great shot with the 9mm SIG P6.  Better than I am with the same gun.  When she has the 9mm and I have my .45 (P220 Carry), we're about evenly matched.  I'm quite proud of her.  8)  Next I wanna introduce her to the S&W Model 629.  We'll start with .44 Special, then work up to Magnum.  I may do some custom "in between" loads so she can gradually step up.  I still gotta research that...

But yeah, would really like to see her take the same CCW course I did.  I'd like her to hear the same info from the same instructor I did, so she knows how I was trained.  Obviously, in keeping with the sentiments above, I will be keeping my mouth shut and will certainly not be countering the instructor.  [thumbsup]

Thats always my first move too - separate em and things go a lot easier and with more success.  One of the issues I have in this venue is women bringing their boys along in the same class.  Its really disruptive as to how I need to teach the womens class.  If I had a class of all wild indians, I could work it fine, but one wild indian in a class of new shooter women is really disruptive.  I don't want to give the boy a bad experience but I still have to teach for the women in the class.  The boys see the AR sitting there and its "When can I shoot that  one!!!" over and over.  I'd love to run a class just for the boys but the logistics of the event just don't allow the time.  I got no end of devious tricks for groups of know it all 12 year olds!

Speaking of girls with shotguns, this "could" be considered political but I would call it fun to watch, (actually not funny) so I will just post the link.  Makes you want to slap the guys up side the head.  If it is to political just fast forward 30 seconds but play it to the end so you won't miss the pants falling down!

Probably been around and old............

It's only political if we talk about Joe. ;D

I've seen it, and it is funny.

It looks so awesome and easy on TV or the movies!!!   I wish I had a way of putting the video of my wife running 8 bowling pins off the table with 8 shots at the Second Chance Combat shoot in 4.5 seconds with full power 12 ga 00 Buck.

LOL... my grandmother got knocked on her bum by a 12ga once.  In the same outing my mom got a bruise from the same gun that lasted over a week.  This was years ago, before cell phones had cameras.

My wife is a bit better with the 12ga Benelli pumper.  She's not so hot with shooting flying clays, but she can at least manage the gun's recoil alright.

She's still not entirely comfortable with the levers and switches on the AR.  I think once she gets it figured out, she'll like it more.

All I know for sure is, she likes that 9mm semi-auto, and she's good with it.  ;)

Sounds great! Good for her... and props to you for taking the time to shoot with her. .44 mag can be a monster for some folks. Good idea to start with low power rounds.

Do you have a .357 mag? Running good .38 spl rounds are kinda sorta similar to 9mm. She could get some mileage on the .357 mag wheelgun shooting .38s, then progress to hotter .357s. Next step could be the 629 running .44 spl rounds then on to the big boy bullets if all goes well. Just remember 629s are N frame Smiths. That's a handful of a grip and gun.

Just a thought. Still, nice to hear she likes to shoot and is good at it. No need to push her to carry. As you said, that's personal. Not always for everyone.
