I've never tried using brakekleen to clean stuff off clear.

Acetone, lacquer thinner, urethane reducer, toluene...doesn't even dull it.

Have you used cerakote? People say it's even tougher than duracoat, with better corrosion resistance.

Friend of mine had his AR done in a desert tan Cerakote.  He loves it, swears by it, and says it's tough... hard for me to tell, because every time we go shooting he babies his gun as much as I do (that is, a lot). <shrug>

Thanks for the info, not having to worry about the clear coat I am going to send it out to < http://www.kc-coatings.com/index.html > and let them incorporate the Cerakote with hydrographics stuff.  Sounds like the best of both worlds, hoping they can do a flat final coat.  I will post it up when I get it back.

After all guns shoot straighter when they look good don't they?

Yep.  ;)

They say that about airplanes too... if it looks right, it'll fly right.  It's usually true.

I have the opportunity to buy a Hi Point .45 with laser, holster, 3 mags and 100 rounds (for home protection) in exc. cond. for $250.
Worth it?
I don't know anything about them other than they are inexpensive with a lifetime warranty.

I bought a 1911 for $400 but none of the add on's you mention.

I've seen the hi p pistols at shows and they feel as cheap as they look. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

Yeah, I declined the sale after researching it a little. It's supposed to be a fairly accurate and reliable pistol but the materials looked to be really low quality. It was not much money but I think I'll save up for something better built.

Lots of mixed reviews of Hi Point products.

I know someone with a 9mm carbine and it works fine, but it certainly looks and feels cheap.

HiPoints are your last choice. They are sufficient but not good.

The HiPoint carbine works very well, but it's cheap.  I had one and it was fine, I just didn't need it.  Sold it to a friend, he put the ATI stock on it and loves it.

Tell me about it.  Besides, they're too expensive to feed once you get past the cover charge.
