"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Slight change of pace...

My office partner wants to buy a gun.  After nearly 40 years of being gun-phobic, she's come to the light (and being threatened by a client's ex-husband).

She is not capable of firing a large caliber and the key for her is that it needs to be SMALL.

I am not a fan of the 22 for personal defence, but does anyone have any experience with the Taurus PT22 poly?

I like the idea of the tip up barrel for her.  Easy to chamber and unload.

My sister CCW's a S&W Bodyguard, she loves that thing. Light, super compact (small hands), concealable, and still packs a punch.

Just another option to explore. [thumbsup]

Seen them.  This person is not up to a 380 yet, not in a mouse gun size.  She'll get there.

Seriously -- 2 years ago she was horribly gun phobic and thought they should be banned.  Now, she is pushing me to help her buy one.  Baby steps.

Does it have to be a semi?

How about an LCR or NAA 22 in 22 mag? More than a .22, but should be easily manageable.

she's pretty set on this gun.  Also, the cost is about the lowest for compact 22s.

22 mag is great but $$$$

I'm well aware a .22 lr can be a very lethal caliber, but in the hands of an inexperienced shooter it might not get the job done.

WRT the price...she's a make the beast with two backsing lawyer. She can swing anything you tell her she needs.

Should go with a revolver, that PT22 looks like a squirt gun.  But seriously, heard of any jamming issues with that little semi?

Actually, no.  From what I've read, it functions very well.

The biggest issue for her is size and cost.  The problem with the revolvers is the width of the cylinder, and she doesn't want to spend a lot for her first gun. It is pretty shocking for a persion who doesn't shoot to see gun and ammo costs.

I just read a really good review about it.

It has an 8lb trigger. Is that too much for your friend to pull cleanly?

I don't think so, she was able to handle the trigger on a few of my revolvers.  But has a long way to go to get used to the sound/recoil energy.

A few years ago, I bought a sizeable amount of 5.45 russian PS ammo when it was really cheap -- I think the most I spent was about 9c/round.

Anyhow, I didn't have anything to shoot it in.. lol... I didn't want to buy another AK, and I had several ARs lying around.  The ammo is pretty dirty so I wanted to pick up a piston AR.. Finally did it:

The Huldra uses the Adams Arms short stroke piston.  Except for the gas system and the bolt carrier, it is the same setup as a regular DI AR.

And when the cheap 5.45 runs out, I can rebarrel the upper with a 5.56 carbine barrel and standard bolt and just keep going.
