Passed up a EAA Witness Carry yesterday at the show... the steel framed model with the rubber grips, great shape.  The stopper was that it was in 10mm.  I'm holding it, and thinking "Bang... three dollars.  Bang... three dollars.  Bang... three dollars..."

Soooo, still looking for that first CCW.

Does anyone have any FHE with the Walther PK380?  Handling a couple yesterday led me to think that it would make a viable EDC, but I have heard mixed reviews about the .380 cartridge.  Not the whole "stopping power vs.  capacity debate," but stuff along the lines of .380 semi autos just being inherently pre-disposed to ejection problems... something about the lightness of the load vs. the weight of the slide... has anyone heard anything to that effect?

A buddy keeps an LCP in his pocket and it works fine. I haven't heard about any inherent issues.

Plenty of carry options in .380 as of late.  The LCP is a copy of the KelTec 3AT, and a much nicer execution in some ways.  Not much to go wrong on those guns and plenty of people have them.

You won't find any deals on the LCP because they sell as many as they make.  The KelTec has been around for a lot longer and sells for much cheaper.  Both do the same thing (click bang) and are good for short range social work.

I have been looking lustily at the LC9 lately.  I like the idea of a mini9 that I can get my hands around.  The Kahr PM9 would be great if it was a little bigger, it's just TOO small for me.

Ruger hit a homerun with those LC models though.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

another buddy is pocket carrying the LC9.

A friend of mine carries a KelTec P-11 as his "pocket gun" when circumstances won't allow a larger-framed weapon (like, tucked shirt events).  It's pretty much invisible when inside an in-the-pocket holster, so it's perfect in that regard.  However, when he let me fire it, the light weight and tiny grip made it feel like it was trying to escape my hand with every shot.

My experiences shooting this thing ruled it out of my current CCW search pretty early.  Maybe if I reach a point where I'm working with different weapons for different situations, I'd consider adding this to the stable.  Since I'm just starting out and I'll be only working with one weapon for a while, well... I mean, c'mon, I've gotta have something that's at least a little fun at the range...

I found the same thing with the LCP.

Lot's of recoil and not much fun to shoot.

It's a concealed carry piece, not a range piece.

It won't be much fun to shoot ANYTHING when you're pulling it on another human being.

agreed.

The size and weight made it difficult to shoot...better?

I have an LCP and Kel-Tec .380. Both are great for what they are. Small carry guns... that's it. Both have functioned 100%, never a bobble out of either one. I even have one of the early .32acp Kel-Tecs, still have it but "replaced it" when the .380 version came out. I'll grab either .380 in a pinch. [thumbsup]

I have a stainless Walther PPK that makes a great paperweight. [bang] Hold it with a decent grip and the slide will chew up the web of your hand. It's buried in dust somewhere in my safe. [roll]

I mentioned this a few pages ago but it's worth repeating. This time of year (coat weather) I am fond of my slicked up S&W model 642 .38spl for carry duty. Nothing wrong with a hot .38spl round and I like the fact that it can be fired from inside a coat pocket without snagging/hanging up if you absolutely have to. Granted, not a perfect/preferred scenario but it does work. I've tried it several times wearing an old beat up winter coat that was headed for Goodwill. Somebody somewhere is wondering what happened to the pocket of their charity jacket. [laugh]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

as long as you can hit a man-sized target at 7-10 feet two or three times without much problem, i doubt anyone will care that their hand hurts.  i think that's the tradeoff for the portability and ability to conceal.

i fire my KelTec once a year -- I run a box of rounds thru it and waste the corbons that are in the magazine.  I don't like firing it at ALL, but it's my go-anywhere pistol (well, except court, I have to check it)

Same-same for me and my Kel-Tec and LCP. Maybe once or twice a year I'll run a box or two of ball and the two magazines of Corbons I carry through it. Always good to reacquaint myself with it's point of aim at 5-10 yards. Spend the ball re-learning it's aim vs hit point and then make sure it's running 100% on the carry ammo once I'm dialed in.
