Anyone have a good handle on values for a 1955 Winchester 1894 in 30-30?  Excellent + condition.  Round barrel profile, original everything.  Functions as new.

My uncle has one that's soaked in oil for the last 30 years, he's probably put 50 rounds thru it and bought it new in 1957.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Whoa!! Holy shit... I'll give you $25.00 for it sight unseen! [laugh]

Man that's a keeper and then some. He actually wants to get rid of it? Why not hand it down to his favorite nephew? ;) [thumbsup]

I have no idea what that gem is worth. I inherited my late father's pre-'64 model 94 30-30 but like most of his guns I think they lived most of their lives bouncing around the bed of his pick up at the ranch. [bang] ... in the rain and dust. :P

Need some ideas.  Need another companion to the three handguns I currently have.  I've got a .22lr NAA mini revolver, Ruger GP series in .357 and a Ruger 9mm.  What would be a good caliber to add?  I've toyed with a 1911, but can't get past their lower mag capacity compared to some other semi autos.

Couldn't agree more!

Fix for lower magazine capacity = http://shopruger.com/SR1911-10-RD-Magazine-Stainless-16001/productinfo/16001/

With the 45, you don't need 18 rounds  ;D

Don't need 18rds with 9mm either, or a .22 for that matter, if you can shoot worth a shit.  It's more an issue of having the ability to engage multiple (several) targets if/when the opportunity presents itself.

A 1911 for each hand then :D

That being said, the mans got a point. 7-8 rounds do go fast.

The 4-5 dead guys felt the same.  ;)

They are that!  They look nice and there are piles of customization options too.  How are they in medium to smaller hands.  I'm a little guy and some of the larger semi autos fell really big in my hands.  Plenty of hand strength, but don't want to feel like I can barely grip it.

The 1911 has a smaller grip than you might imagine.  How do you feel with a G17 in your hands?  If you can get your hand around that, you'll have TONS of grip on a 1911.

Not sure I've had a G17 in my hand, the one Glock I did have didn't fell comfortable, it was like the edges of the grip dug in quite a bit.  I had plenty to wrap around the grip, but it was one of the medium framed ones.  I did try out a larger framed Sig 9mm that felt great.

Lots of 1911 lovers on this thread, me included. I love my ugly plastic Glocks too but if SHTF I'd grab my .45acp 1911s first and the G17 & G19 for back ups. Can't go wrong there. [thumbsup] I was raised on Hi-Powers and 1911s so I'm a single action/cocked and locked kind of shooter... John Browning is my hero. ;) The grip area on a 1911 and the angle of the grip are one of the sweet things about those pistols. Ruger didn't design their MK I, II & III .22s without staring at 1911s for a long time.

If you have a hang up on the 7-8 round capacity of a .45acp 1911 you can always humor yourself with a Wilson Combat 10 round mag. I have several and they run like Swiss trains. Sure they stick out the bottom of the mag well a little but so what. Or you can go the wide body STI, SVI or Para-Ordnance route and have a semi fat, hi-cap 1911.

Again, I really like my Glocks but I'm just as smitten, if not more, with 1911s and Hi-Powers. Try borrowing a 1911 or rent one at a range and give it a try. They've been around for over 100 years for a good reason and I think they are more popular now than ever. What does that tell you? Just look at all the top shelf manufactuers making 1911s these days... SIG Sauer, Ruger, Springfield Armory, Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Rock River, etc. Hell, even the Chinese (Norinco) made a basic, inexpensive .45 1911 (Norinco) back in the 1990s that sold well.

Good point. But everyone needs a 1911 in their stash.    ;D
