If you need more than 3 with that style of rifle, then you need to find another job.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I guess it's possible that it is the internal mag, to be used for damage repair. (?)

Remington offers a DM (detachable magazine) series.  I like the concept, easy and quick loading/unloading while hunting.

Wow, I didn't know that about the model 700.  Haven't they been making it since the early 60's?

In college I picked up a Remington Sportsman 78 in 30.06.  It's the no frills version of the 700.  It does have the 700 internals but the stock is very simple.  On a college income it was perfect.

I wanted to get a Marlin 30.30.  The guys at the gun store talked me into the 30.06.  It was the round to have back then.  Of course I needed the 3x9 scope.  And to top it off they recommended the 240 grain bullets.  All this for 80 lbs. deer hunting in the dense woods of the Catskills.

Every deer I ever saw or shot was within 40 yards.  And I had a 200 yard gun.  When the deer were hit the bullet never got a chance to do it's intended task (but it did get the job done.)  I eventually stepped down to a 140 grain round.  It helped.

I've always hated the round.  If you go to the range don't expect to shot boxes of rounds.  Your shoulder will hate you.  When you shot it everyone knows your shooting.

I should have gotten a shotgun with a rifled barrel.  You live and you learn.

Guess it all depends on what you're hunting...and where.

I looked it up and the 700 series has been made since 1962. It was patterned after the 721/722 and they were made in 1948. I thought the 700 started after WWII but it was the 721/722 series. If I remember right I believe I read where those earlier rifles had similar problems that continue to this day. WTF?
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

maybe.  but it's a bolt rifle.  followup shots aren't as quick and if you have correct ammo and proper glass, then it's all operator.

if you need more than one shot, then you may need a different rifle.

I get ya.  I'm just referring to military use.

Look at AI, Sako, even Remington with the new M24/XM2010.  They're all box mags.

Accuracy Int'l. makes some really nice shit! [thumbsup] If I was into long range stuff I'd find a way to afford one.

Check out the current Savage 110BA.  Has a lot of the features of the AI guns and comes in a LOT cheaper.

A shooting buddy told me recently that Savage has really stepped it up. I'll have to check one out. At least it wouldn't have the Rem 700 issues. [bang] ;D

The same is true of my 1911s. I have some basically stock Kimbers that shoot just as well as my Les Baers, at least in my hands. The Baers are great guns, very well made and worth the asking price but I personally can't shoot any better with them. I just wanted to own them... and shoot them! ;D

Long range shooting is just like riding motorcycles. You're right, it's about the person and their ability. Sure some bikes, rifles and pistols are better than others but it always comes down to the human involved. Rossi would lap me even if he was on a Vespa! [laugh]

Driving to the range in your vehicle and unloading all your kit, to set up and shoot a match, is totally
different than doing a drop off, or leave behind mission. Where you may be on glass for several days
to weeks. Eating, sleeping, shitting etc. in some type of a hide site.
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

#702
The longest leave behind I had was 2 days and that was enough.  It was 99 in the shade.  I drank about a gallon an hour an would piss a teacup once every 12 hours.

That's a long time ago.
