I have a few friends with "muffled" .22s, they are cool as hell. With sub-sonic ammo all you hear is the clank of the bolt.

My cousin worked on his Dad's vegetable farm that was adjacent to a series of big water filled gravel pits. Looked like a bunch of rectangle lakes in rows but they were abandoned gravel pits. Anyway, there were lots of nutria (giant water rats) that would come up out of the pits and wreak havoc on the vegi crops. They shot and trapped all they could. Problem was the farm was within the city limits of Irving, TX and discharging a firearm was against the law. And air rifles just didn't have the stopping power to roll 'em over dead.

My cousin and I had a mutual friend and that guy and his Dad owned a gun store. The friend was also into Class III goodies including silenced .22s. A five minute discussion over a cold beer and the deal was made. Come to the farm, day or night, and shoot every damn nutria you can! Our friend probably wore out the barrel of his muffled 10/22 Ruger. He and my cousin would even spot light them after dark and no one was the wiser. [thumbsup] Fun stuff and the crops were saved. [clap] [popcorn] [bacon]

I'd love to have one but don't want to go through the hassles again. Have you tried a good air rifle like a Feinwerkbau? I have one of their sporter type rifles and it runs around 1,000 FPS in .177 caliber. Good enough for squirrels and chipmunks. Check 'em out.

I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I think I need one of these.

Anyone put a suppressor on a 22 pistol.

No I'm not a hit man.

I do have a few chipmunks I'd like to get rid of without the neighbors calling homeland security.
A CO2 pistol is legal and plenty for chip....

you really want to go through the hassle of the permit?

You can't even legally discharge a firearm at your house I don't think.

I'll need to verify that again.   :P

I did get an air gun, crossman 2100.  750 fps.  But who wants to pump the thing or deal with co2 cartridges.

WarrenJ

Spring Piston and PCA guns will give you plenty of velocity with no pumping* or CO2.  The spring piston guns are simple and the new models will exceed 1000 fps  with the right pellets.  The larger caliber airguns may not have the super high velocity but the heavier pellets make up for some of that.

PCA guns use compressed air from SCUBA tanks at 2000 - 3000 psi.  The Feinwerkbau and Walther target guns I used would shoot several hundred shots from one fill.  (this is at 10 Meter target velocities - about 575 fps)  The higher velocity guns get 30 - 50 shots per fill typically.

The nice thing about the PCA guns is that they have nearly no recoil and can mount conventional scopes without destroying them as on spring piston guns.  Spring Piston guns will rapidly destroy any riflescope that is not made to handle the vibrations of the spring piston firing.  The upside of the spring piston guns is they do not require scuba tanks or hand pumps to charge the cylinders.
Do a search for Barnes Airguns to see some of the wildest, most artistic large caliber airguns made.
This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

You should probably move out of the woods if you don't like chip.  :P

Come on...

it will be fun hunting them. You can wear your Davey Crockett hat.  [laugh]

I heard clearly...pretty sure he told you, in a nice way, something I'd yell at him for if he was blunt.

You need to read more between the lines.  ;)

double check.  some places allow firearm use if it's for pest control and under certain caliber.  around here, you may shoot even the deer if it is for pest control.

It's more the distance between dwellings...

and firearm discharge.

Truth is is that shooting on my property isn't technically legal...

my neighbors aren't concerned.

If Frank is concerned about Homeland security he probably has an inkling that one of his neighbors likes chipmunks...

more that him. ;D

The squirrel was breaking into the house and posed a lethal threat.

It was self defense.
