What's the point of a 4 bore?

Novelty or mini artillery?

old school big game cartridge

black powder guns were much lower power than modern powders.  if you wanted to hunt large animals, a .54 caliber ball would have gotten you killed if you shot an elefant with it.  it would have just pissed him off.

Allegedly, this is Gadaffi's Hi-Power.

I suppose this isn't quite as tacky as Saddam's gold plated AK-47s, but what is it about dictators as gaudy, bad-taste accessorizing?

And if you're going to get it gold plated and engraved, why not get some nicer grips?

i know, right?   [evil]

i fielded an 8 bore shotgun once too.. muzzle loader.  my first shot was low because the barrel was so heavy -- it scarred the ground about 30 feet from us -- it looked like someone took a blow torch and scorched the ground in a fan shape..

4 is bigger than 8.  the smaller numbers are like wire gage.

2 bore is absurd.

Was the 8 bore a commercial duck gun from the 19th/early 20th centuries? I'd be more impressed, Z, if you'd fired an actual punt gun.  ;D (Now that I think about it, that could make a decent fundraising idea for Ducks Unlimited or Chesapeake Bay Foundation - without actual ducks in the way of course, and loading with gravel or something instead of a pound of pure lead...)

lol no, no punt guns.  i forget the name, it was a repro of an old make with a real Damascus barrel and everything.

i can't imagine using one of those punt guns.  that's just ridiculous.  you aren't hunting, you're doing pest control with those.
