the sketch looks better than the actual pictures.  I have no idea what's true anymore, just have to wait and see I guess.

And I agree the ST should be updated, I'd more likely swing for one of those and keep my Monster.

Well the photos are of an unfinished bike. There's no body work in the photos. Body parts are going to be there.  So I trust(Ish) the photos

Anyone else catch the damper valve on the exhaust?

Not shocked at this. Noise rules and all... hell the new VFR keeps one of the exhaust valves closed under 6k to keep the noise down.

I think the drawing looks really good.  The tank seems longer than it probably will end up but it makes the bike look nice.

Hey BBC Chop

Right up your alley? Looks half way between your current bikes. I like it too.

Well, then I'd only need one bike.... so it's not for me!  I really like having two bike at opposite ends of the spectrum.  But if I could only have one, and this looks like the drawing, then yeah--I'd be interested.  I just hope it doesn't dilute what is best about both of mine and come out luke warm.  That would be a shame, but it will probably happen.

looking back at the spy pics, I'm not too impressed with the cast looking frame that the trellis bolts up to behind the motor, as it kind of cheapens the bike in my eyes, not too mention the fact everything seems to be made out of cheap plastic parts or stamped metal...

If Ducati keeps cheapening their bikes and pumping them out in masses than I'll have to start riding Bimota's or Vyrus's or something.

+1  It makes it that much harder to justify the Ducati tax.

welll whether we like it or not, it's gonna be made.

now if it sticks around or goes like the Indiana... we'll see.

personally I hope the next two projects Ducati is working on are the ST and SS replacements

development costs for both would be VERY low
the ST would use the new MTS lowered with body work
the SS would use the new Monster platforms with bodywork and clipons and new rearsets

I've been doing alot of work, and sketching and measuring on the 1100 to get it to be more similar to what a supersport could be, and it's alittle more complex.

The headstock optimally would be 2-4" higher than it is currently, with a slightly different angle, and offset triples to improve the super small trail numbers, while maintaining the quick turn in.
---This can be worked around, but it's not the best for true SS behavior.

The fuel tank needs to be redesigned to be higher in the back and lower in the front, because with clip ons under the top triple, while racing it gets difficult to properly shift the upper body, since the forearm cannot easily fall onto the tank, but needs to almost curve around it.

The lack of true height adjustable rear does limit tuning options (can be fixed, but not simply as of now)

Otherwise it's definitely a solid platform in the making.  I've been looking for someone to help me make either new tank covers, or more optimally, a new tank, but the cost on this isn't something I can workout sadly....yet!

I don't give up easy though.

It does have a very composed chasis, however, with excellent stiffness, and is an ever expanding platform.

I wish a guy like CA-Cycleworks would make something similar to their Monster Track Tank that fit the 1100.....I've been looking for a SS tank to try and make work, but there's alot of chopping/welding required that's beyond my current skill level.

for the rear of the tank to get more height you could build  a mold to make new tank skins fit to. for the front, the airbox is there, not the tank. for the headstock, agree the angle isn't as agressive as the SS, but a lift in the back, with say a new swingarm or longer shock mount it could be done.

the great thing about the new Monster frame is the ability to cast a new rear frame to adjust suspension points, seat angles, etc.

very true.  I'm working on getting the airbox out, and turning it into pods (probably a wasp kit when its available), then sloping the front of the tank skins downward more....giving it more of a ss style shape

I think it is possible to get close to, but not exactly fitting tank by just altering th skins the gas cap is pretty forward, and higher than the rest of the tank, making the slope pretty steep to drop the tank down in the front a bit.

Long-term future will reshape the tank, elongate it to occupy the upper most airbox portion (more capacity!), move the tallest point backward toward the rider, and thinner around.

I'm talking well into the future here.
