Hmm looks like it might have been part of training... guess they should train no front brakes in a situation like that.

i have no idea what type of training that was, everyone knows that you don't put that much front brake on going down stairs and that much weight forward either or else exactly that happens.

maybe it was training on how to crash and survive, because there was absolutely nothing tactical or advantageous to doing what the guy did going down the stairs.

I've seen experienced mountain bikers do that before...........heck 2 nights ago, I was descending a bridge and needed to scrub off some speed, but for some reason I grabbed the front brake a bit too hard......mental eff-up I guess

One one think he would have at least shifted his weight back...  I've had to shift back so far before I was basically behind the seat almost sitting the tire ~

Wonder how many teeth he spit out afterwards? Did no one tell him to get his weight back over the rear wheel? I'm guessing that's the first and only time he's done that. I'm also guessing he didn't pass the class. [laugh]

It was a training class. They have special training for bike officers. Remind me not to go to that one.

Experienced doesn't necessarily mean skilled...that's a no-brainer there.

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Stairs are actually pretty simple. Keep your weight back, use little to no front brake, keep the handlebars straight, and let the suspension do the work. That being said, I don't go down narrow stairs with guardrails right by me just because the consequences for failure are pretty bad. Reference exhibit A.

San Antonio had a bike cop training course right next to one of the better local trails. It was awesome blowing past them and seeing the look of terror in their eyes. wasn't even at all technical. Of course though I met a Louisville area cop a few weeks back riding a Titus Loco Moto on a local trail. He'd do just fine.
