For anyone interested and anyone in the northern hemisphere, there's a great opportunity to see an amazing lunar eclipse tonight. It's a pretty amazing event to see. It's especially special this year because it's happening on the winter solstice and hasn't happened since 1638.

What you'll see:

The Earth's shadow should start showing on the moon's lower left around 1:33 a.m. Eastern time.

The shadow moves slowly, but by 2:41 a.m. ET, the entire moon will be covered, and will stay that way for an hour.

The shadow will start moving again at 3:53 a.m. ET, and the moon will be back to normal by 5:00 a.m. ET

Oh and watch out for vampires.

I think I just might have to get up to see this [thumbsup]

Snowing here - I was looking forward to watching that - but I'm planning on skiing tomorrow so snow is good too!

hoping to still be awake for this, but we will see...
This map is upside down, the plan is written in crayon, and the weather forecast is from 2011.

I have never seen a lunar eclipse in my life, so I was really pumped about this one. Partially cloudy skies, but the moon was still in full view. About 10:30-ish, complete cloud cover w/ flurries rolls in, won't depart till after daylight.

Actually managed to get up when the alarm woke (the 11-year old was insistent upon seeing this) - was very cool (downright cold actually) and although the pics she tried to take didn't come out we were all glad that we had managed to get up and see it! [thumbsup]
Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing; however, they can still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Last night's full lunar eclipse was amazing!

Partial lunar eclipses aren't all that uncommon, full lunar eclipses (like last night's) only happen about once a year. However, last night's eclipse was rare because if fell on the winter solstice (shortest day of the year, when the moon is high in the sky) and the last time that this happened was in 1638 - the next time it will happen will be 2094.

Here's a link to a video of the beautiful color change:

It was like looking at Mars! Beautiful! It was so high in the sky that I had to lay on the hood of my truck to watch it without hurting my neck!  [thumbsup]

I missed it due to heavy clouds.   >:(
