But last week and this one, yes. I'm working on getting a new job going that's a lot like ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag.

On their website they write that the mirror finish is cut, not sanded or polished  :o  Accurate macinery?

Not necessarily. They cut that with a PCD (polychrystalline diamond) insert (possibly just carbide though)

The key is high sfm (or m/min for you metric peeps) and a single insert and not multiple.

That way there's zero difference in the height of each cut and you get a mirror finish.

You can still achieve this on an older, looser machine.

It is responsible for the fact that the metal surface reflects at all. The term of a mirror-smooth surface does not come now times from by chance. A normal milling machine would be hopelessly overwhelmed in view of the necessary precision in the nanometer range. The custom-made machine for mo.view production therefore has air-bearing spindles, hydrostatic axes and vibration-free machine beds made of solid granite. The device weighs several tons.

I won't deny their fancy machine does a good job but I've had equal results on my lowly old normal run of the mill CNC machines ;)

Well, that explains a lot to me.

A customer brought some of those in for a quick fit and run.
I wondered at the paper thin construction, but didn't have time to check them out in any detail.

What do those things cost?  It has to be off the charts with that production method and the volume can't be that high

Been wondering that. I think they cryo spray them with that torch looking thing and that kiln looking thing sure looks like a heat treat process. My guess is they harden them.
