999SP? I've never heard of one. There's the new 1198SP but I don't think a 999 version exists. If one was ever released I was in a coma. Of course that's not uncommon. [laugh]

My error. It is a 996 SP. It is a track only go fast version from 2000 model year. Sorry for the confusion.

Searchtempest.com does that too.

Also, just so we're all on the same page I bought the bike on ducati.ms

Driving down next week to pick it up :D

Good on you!! You'll love it. Just make sure you get the suspension set up for you. 999's are fussy about that, more so than most bikes in my experience.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

According to Ian Falloon's book the only Tamburini SP bikes were 916s. In 1994 and '95 they were basically the same. In '96 it became the SP3. Some '96 bikes became 955cc SPAs (Sport Production America) as homologation specials for AMA racing in the States. And in '97 it was the 916SPS, which I have. The SP line up did have spruced up motors with larger valves, more radical timing, etc.

Could your buddy's bike been a 996SPS? A local friend has one of those. My 916SPS actually has a 996 motor again for homologation purposes, even though it's still called a 916. [bang] No biggie, just wondering. Over the years it's been a job keeping up with Ducati's "special line up" of bikes. Lots of alphabet soup!! [laugh]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

Thanks!

I loved my 675 and i think this will effectively marry that riding style with the crushing torque my 950 smr has.

Actually, this should be a good 30% more power.

I can't wait [evil]

Always a good sign! [thumbsup] [moto] I don't think I should mention what I dreamed about last night. [laugh] OK... it had something to do with that hot Brazilian actress on V. ;)

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.
