I have seen all three of those before and my vote would be for #2...

#1 is missing the mirrors(has those cheap bicycle bar end mirrors), the rear seat cowl and the front fairing and yet it is "stock"...who knows what else is in err...

#3 has had that bike up for sale for well over 6 months and is still trying to sell it...he has had it on Ebay...god knows what is really wrong with it...there must be some reason why it hasn't sold or something wrong he hasn't disclosed...

#2 is a new bike on the market, looks like some nice decent mods...decent looking shape and the pricing isn't unreasonable...

I wouldn't discount #3 just because it's been on the market for a while.  It's a shitty economy.

It looks like it has a Foggy tank from an S4, which is sort of cool.  The KM speedo concerns me only because I want to know why it's on the bike -- it may be an import or a DoD bringback, in which case I would give it + and - points.  + because a lot of foreign-owned bikes are better treated than their American counterparts (warranty law in Europe allows a manufacturer to REQUIRE an owner to get work done at the dealer as well as use factory only parts like filters) but - because i've seen a LOT of bringbacks that were treated like shit.. for some reason, most are Navy guys coming from Italy (Napoli or Sigonelli, but usually the former) and the bikes really get trashed, so I'd like to know the provenance if it was a DoD bike.  If it was, then there will be a RI (importer's) sticker under the seat and the VIN will be a short one (13 digit).  Moreover, the ad looks like it was written by someone taking ESL.

#2 looks like a very good candidate.  Are those SIL cans?  I am very partial to high mounts.  Lower the gages and maybe remove/swap the engine fairing and it's done.  I would definitely check it out for that price.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Agreed on #2 - that guy is asking sane money. email him for more detailed pics and see if he has the receipt from the last valve adjustment.
I believe 98's have carbs, and I'm partial to those. Especially since (after you get used to it) you can pay way too much for flat-slides!
If you go to see it, put 2800 in one pocket and leave the rest in your car. If you like it you can get it then. Cash talks! Let him talk you up to 3000! :)

The high-mounts look nice (at least in these shots) and what's also nice is the passenger pegs are there too. With an M900 you're sure to pick up chicks! (or was that a different advert? :)) Oh, and see if he has the original bars or orig exhaust. Probably not at this point but nice to have. And ask how the tires are. New battery is nice - ask him *how* new. In my mind last year is not a new battery.

I agree with DucatiZ on #3 - while everything may be kosher, I'm always suspicous of replaced tank / etc. I never even thought of the "bringback" thing.

$#!t happens. Keep an eye on our Craigslist thread http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=40309.0 since we post there almost daily. Might not be what you're looking for, but it can help you see what we think is a great deal vs what is an overpriced bucket of bolts on 2 wheels.

Sucks! "The one that got away" - but lots of Monsters come up so I'm sure another good one will appear soon. As Massimo points out, follow the "craigslist" thread. Your personal shopper Zoom updates that, oh, about every 5 minutes!

second is an email not a link...  here is the link to his auction:
http://easternshore.craigslist.org/mcy/2307603570.html

i would go for the '03 model in a minute.  it's a 1000 DS motor with the very handsome senna colors.  i would love that.

auction says he has personal debt to retire.  that explains the desire to sell.

fork seals?  that's kind of unusual for the age.  how many miles?  wheelie much?

Not necessarily, the bike seems pretty stock and low mileage for the age. I just think there isn't much interest in the "low powered" monsters.

I have the same bike and it's good fun and easy to handle. However I found myself wanting more power soon (the bike has *only* 60 hp) but any mod would be silly expensive: big bore + high comp pistons, FCR carbs, plus some head work and you're talking $$$ 2.5 - 3K

Fork seals are not an indication of a problem, I've had them start leaking in less than 6 months on new Ducati's and I've had them go bad in less than a year, a lot of factors can cause that and it's an easy non expensive fix. - Gene

sounds like a well ridden bike -- 6-7 years of riding at 2000-2500 per year?  i'd hit that with a spatula.

guy wants to sell?  bargain time.

I'm actually selling my 800 since I'm moving to Chile. I'm nowhere close to you guys (Florida), but if your search in the area turns up nothing, let me know.
