Aussie style El Caminos. Very popular here, but no longer built here as GM and Ford shut down in Oz. Who knows you guys may get them if GM and Ford take the designs back with them.

Ford have shut down, however GM (Holden) and Toyota are still open until sometime in 2017.

Holden are closing in the fourth quarter but the date hasn't yet been decided/disclosed. Toyota also haven't released their closure date, apart from it being late 2017.

I believe Holden's engine plant may already have closed, but Holden have stockpiled enough engines to ensure production is maintained throughout next year.

So who is going to make cars there?

Nobody, well at least no large manufacturers!

There's talk here and there of a few small niche companies starting up to produce small runs of special vehicles, but sadly, I don't reckon any substantial vehicle numbers will be built here again.

Cost of manufacturing in this country is simply too high, with no tariffs to protect local jobs.

I'm sure the kids of our great nation will still be happy to build various models of Lego vehicles though! 😳😳

Was checking that. It is a diesel according to the article you linked to.
I hope we get the ones made by Nissan. I dont know much about Renult so to me they are pretty much an unknown.

Toyota Hi-Ace.

Love the ground clearance but I'm not a fan of the lack of crash protection.

I'll be 60 in a year.  I think it rocks.  Not sure I want to take up pipe smoking, though.

Unless something changes drastically in the next few years, it looks like diesel as a passenger platform (i.e. small diesels) is dead.

However, I think I may have my wish.  Chevy Colorado is coming in a diesel for 2017 (2.4 I4 motor)

A couple local dealers have one already. I hope to test drive one soon just for kicks.
