.....considering it. Any good advice on it or any past success stories? I know it's not particularly streets friendly, but it's a track bike.

edit with the results of what I decided to do:
Cliff's Notes--
984Kit: 96mm Pistons, 3 ring varient, 2mm cyl walls
Lightened, polished, knifed crank
Carillo Rods
AL Clutch hub, steel basket
YoYo light Flywheel
ST2 cams in "V" big valve heads
FCR41's banked on OE runners with K&N Pods (no box)
Fuel is 110LL fed by electric pump at 3.5psi
Ign Timing is max 37*
single oil cooler: running street temp < 175F

jetting came out as follows:

Main, 165
Needle on 5th, but I wish I had a few different tapers to try.
Fuel screw @ 1.5
200 main air
Slow air @ 2 1/2
Fuel level 9mm

91rwhp

Its the first bike ive ever felt compelled to name:    Sanguinario Demone

I'd rather not shave or balance the crank. How much am I shorting myself there. It's just....$900 wow.

Same with the heads. No luck on affordable vee two or st2 cams, so oh well...

And for that matter, the carbs. Also stock. Jet kit, and will be optimally jetted, but FCR is next on the list.

What I DO have is the programmable ignition.

Worthwhile? I'm being offered a pretty solid deal on it locally, including machining the cases for the sleeve to fit down in. And the kicker is I happen to have them totally gutted and split all ready.

I wouldn't bother shaving the crank.

Balancing would likely be called for, depending on the weight of the pistons.
It's not particularly expensive to get a crank balanced, ~$100 or so.

What heads and cams do you have now?

I'm assuming you've got an oil cooler?

From my understanding, one oil cooler isn't enough

I have the v marked 900 heads, and the stock oil cooler.

Hadn't thought of cooling issues....

Which cams do you have?

I'd say cooling depends on how hot it is where you race, where are you running?

BCM found very early that 984's needed two coolers for the street.

I'd plan on it.

The cams are stock to the 1994 m900 I'm working on. HEads are off, I haven't pulled them yet to see the markings again. It's been a while.

Is there a tried and true way for adding an oil cooler?

I'm running in Pennsylvania. It can be 90's on a very hot summer day.

You might pm ducvet, or mail him at his business... www.clubhousemotorsports.com ...he has a contact page

He might remember how they did it.

I think for what you are going to spend to get the most hp outta that setup....

DS1100 drop in.

What's a set of ST2 cams (with valves if you want them....the ring grooves are machined a little off from the standard 900 valves so that you can stay in the middle of the shim selection range instead of going to the extreme end of it) worth to ya?  What's "affordable"?

I have a set that's about to go onto ebay, unless you want to make a nice offer here.   [thumbsup]

Be interesting to see how a 984 responds to ST2 cams. What does your builder expect?
Are you staying with stock valve sizes? Maybe a 44mm inlet with porting? Also interesting to see how much of a bottle neck to peak power the long manifolds will be.

So for this year I'm going to do the kit, and lighten the crank...all the bottom end stuff. Cams, headwork, larger valves will come next winter to unleash more of the kits potential.

I am the builder and I don't know what to expect! I wish I could do it all this year, but funds only allow so much and since the heads cam come of easily later but the crank can't, this is the order I'm doing it in.

Also I'll give it the FCR carbs this year too.

Sounds like a cool plan. Will watch with interest.
Cheers.
