Why would you expect Apple to support an MS OS that even MS doesn't support.  Due diligence my friend.

I have no choice...  My employer (NYSE - C) is a freaking dinosaur. >:(

My goal - and it's a good one 8) - is to have one device have my work calendar, all my contacts AND all my music on one device that ALSO has good internet access.  I could care less about getting work email.

Yes - I forgot to do just that ONE EXTRA STEP of due diligence.  Shoot me...

I returned mine because the documentation didn't say that it would not cook my breakfast and wash my bike. There was a whole lot of stuff that manual didn't say it wouldn't do.   >:(

but it gives a mean ..  oh never mind, that isnt documented.
If you love your bike, set it free.
If it comes back to you, you've
probably high-sided.

does citigroup have an it/security policy that allows you to tether what basically amounts to a cellular modem to machines on the local area network? my guess is "no".

if "yes," i'm really scared.

hell, WE don't even allow multifunction printer/fax machines to be connected to both the network and a phone line.

I was wondering the same thing.

Well, I know I can't bring in my own computer and hook it to the systems.

I was just hoping to get what I have with my Motorola Q and MS ActiveSync - access to my Outlook Calendar and Contacts.

My Crackberry is linked to the Exchange server, and managed through IT.

It took me about 3 months to get ActiveSync on my desktop several years ago.

blackberries sync via an enterprise server that interacts directly with the mail server.

if you're trying to sync to exchange via activesync, your desktop OS shouldn't matter. that's a connection between the phone and the email server.

So, do you already have 2 different phones then?  In that case, why would you want your work calendar and email on your personal phone.

tommys67

For some reason, having my complete calendar on my cell works for me - I like having everything on one device.  I've been doing this for at least 5 years - I had an old smartphone (Motorola MPx220) that did the same thing.  I'm not the most organized person, but having my calendar and contacts available whenever I have my phone is comforting to me.

My work email I could care less about - if I need to be on top of it, I bring the blackberry along.  The blackberry is old, provided by the co., paid for by the co, and does NOT have the cell phone activated.

With ActiveSync, the device still needs to be found and recognized by the program.  I tried two different versions of ActiveSync - never found the iPhone.  Win2K kept "finding new hardware" and seeking a driver that "may or may not be needed" - I loved that last bit.

A quick Google search for any permutation of "iPhone" and "Windows 2000" found articles and forums all saying the same thing - it don't work.

Are we done with the inquisition now guys?   Please?

So, I just upgraded from the Edge to the 3G yesterday- still a 5 person line at the apple store.  GPS with maps is pretty cool, and the single greatest feature (in my opinion) is that you don't have to use that dumb shit headphone adapter if you don't use the apple buds.

One question- my Edge iPhone charged and played music with no problem with my Monster Cable FM modulator, but the 3G will play music but not charge.  Any ideas?

yeah, the headphone thing sucks.  i ended up carving mine out a bit with an xacto knife.

i know my 1g phone didn't charge on the accessories that charged my iPod... it would actually drain the battery.  probably something similar.  not sending the correct amps.

I got mine yesterday. I love it so far. I had the screen brightness on high and the 3G and GPS on for the first day and I couldn't figure out why the battery only lasted me until lunch time. I turned off the GPS, adjusted the brightness and changed some email settings for today's experiment. I'm still at a full battery after 7 hours. Not bad  [thumbsup]

And then found out after I imported my music into Itunes that my files are a mess.

23G of music in 117 genres :o missing album art, track names, you name it gonna take me months to sort it out. Oh well.
