how do you do that? I see on the inside a bunch of tiny looking rivets or something....are those allen set screws or what?

They are allen head grub screws.  Well, unless the PO did something else weird.  Back them out and pop the filler out with a hammer handle.  Unless you want to keep that gorgeous custom paint on the tank you want to remove it anyway.  Before reassembly check the fuel lines and change the filter.  The lines should be SAE30R10.

A new sender will be a big part of your budget.  Better splices, maybe some fuel resistant heat shrink might work just fine.

I got the older type and the wires broke at the epoxy at the end. I said screw it because I knew the light came on about 150 miles and then about another 25-30 to empty. Just make sure you get gas every so often and it's a done deal.

Or shop around for the correct pipe blank. I think it's M28, I found one at a plumbing supply site but I'm feeling lazy. Tongue

thats the chain adjuster.

what I think happened is that the adjuster got striped and thats how he "fixed" it. however, I have already recieved new ones for 35 bucks. Yup..35 bucks, how he could put in the time and effort and make that mess, and I took 5 mins and got a newish set for 35 bucks is beyond me. ohwell.

anyway.....bad news, bike budget is on extreme hold....I still plan on putting in as much labor as I can. But unfortunately the house is in dire need of new A/C unit. Mine is 15 years old, we have been "patching" it...but today was it. So some time this week we will have to figure out a way to get a new one. finance or something.  bang head I guess I should be thankful that it lasted as long as it has, however I had hoped it would survive till the end of summer. Unfortunately I cannot live without an A/C, well I can...but, the little lady cant really, and my reef tank is to touchy about temp changes. It wont be able to endure a florida summer without A/C....and I have to much money into this tank to give it all up.

soo...I would was hoping to get this done by mid summer....but doesn't look like it now...however...it will be done. I dont give up so easily on stuff like this...and I am not going to quit this bike....I know there is an amazing bike here....and it will be back and happy again. Smiley

maybe you've already talked about it in the thread and I missed it, but what is your over all vision for this bike? having it "done" on paper helps in several ways, mainly keeping the sunk cost down or avoiding regret. You can make the "right" compromises that way. I didn't really have that, so I ended up spinning my wheels and throwing a ton of cash at my build that literally ended up wasted, buying parts that caught my eye then realizing there was something different I wanted to do or that they wouldn't work at all. Other ppl here really benefited from that fly by the seat of my pants mentality in the classifieds at my expense, lol. (mainly Nibor haha) And probably still will.

If you're planning to DIY the paint work be doubly confident in your abilities and time restraints to do it well or you'll pay again to have it done right. Were it me, I'd budget some cash for paint or powder coat of the: frame and wheels at least. My tank, I found one that was in brand new, less than 600 miles condition minus a golf ball sized dent I was able to pull out 75% of for $177, which made way more sense than paying big $ for a professional paint and prep job.

besides the headlight, I dont need anything else really.

I mean ya sure I need tires, chain and sprockets, get the ecu reflashed, some gauges, stuff like that, but overall its about there. The rest of it is just labor and putting it all back together.

Nothing fancy I assure you, it will look nice, and mostly stock. But definitely not a show piece or anything.
