For those of you who are fans, Metallica is releasing a new album in Sept. or Oct. intitled Death Magnetic.  The track list is below.  I am excited as hell and have heard pieces of all of these and no they do not sound like St. Anger which I know everyone will be pregnant doging about.  Plus if you going to say something about Napster just leave off.  Metallica fans and the public as a whole have heard enough.  I just want to celebrate new music from the best Hard Rock band of all time.

Seriously though, since the black album I don't think they have had anything good.  Dunno if it's because my tastes changed or what.  I will give their new album a listen to but I don't expect much.

100% agree that after the Black, they pretty much began their giant suck-fest

You have no idea how many times I hear that they went down hill after the Black Album.  I understand that Load and Reload weren't the same as the earlier stuff but they are still very good and very hard albums.  Plus, S&M is amazing.  Lets see some other bands out there do what they did with a whole symphony orchestra.  I personally like St. Anger but I think you have to be a little crazy to get it.  I do think the drums sounded horrible on it and the lack of solos sucked.  The new album sounds like a cross between Justice and the Black album.  Should be much better and will hopefully get some olds fans back.
If you think they have lost it go see them live.  You can argue, if you want, that there are better bands but no other band comes close to the energy and sound that they have live.  I saw them at Bonarroo last month which is a festival where a band like Metallica does not  fit in and they blew everyone away, not my opinion but the opinion of hardcore jam band fans and hippies who thought Metallica would suck.

If your interested go to www.missionmetallica.com and you can get videos of the recording process for the new album.

I'll check it out but I just don't have that kind of Kill em all energy anymore and I don't think they do either.

Don't they have a new Bass Player? That Guy from Suicidal Tendencies?

I saw them live.  Faith No More, GnR, and Metallica at Meadowlands years back.  Was a great show.

remember when metallica was metal?

i miss that.

no i don't thinkthey can go back, they are too old and not as angry.

compared to what they have done the black album and everything after it isn't as good. if any other band put out most of those songs they would be considered great albums (st anger blew monkeys and lars was playing on a garbage can drum kit) I have seen them live a few times within the past few years, and st anger songs still suck despite the fact that they are one of my fav live bands.
i resisted all claims by people that they had lost their edge and now suck. i fought claims that they are just old and in it for the money now. (remember the $5.99 album?) I even found ways to rationalize Some Kind of Monster. i enjoy that it humanized all these people i have been admiring for years, but it made them out to be whiny jackasses.

i have now come to terms that one of my favorite bands has just mellowed out. it's hard to stay angry for that long.

i have found it funny that mustaine was kicked out for being too much of an alcoholic for metallica, and then hetfield went into rehab.

SKOM

I'll pick it up. Even if they haven't kept the "edge" that Kill em All had they are still talented as fck.

I'd buy an album of nothing but Kirk Hammet solos. And yes yes Lars is kind of a douche. But he is still one of the best drummers I have ever heard. Trujillo is a sick Bass player but I really miss the energy of Newstead. So does the band IMO but that's what they get for treating him shit.

I've been going to Metallica shows since I was 10 and have seen them 15 times.
They have just as much energy now as they did back then.  The show at Bonarroo was significantly better than any show I've seen in the past 5 years.  I think it has to do with Rick Rueben being their new producer.  If you don't know who he is Rueben is known for resurrecting the careers of major artists.  His whole theme for the new album is to get back to puppets and justice and I think the new stuff will be much more angry than load and reload.  From just hearing some of the new stuff trust me James has plenty of anger left in him.

At the same time, if everyone has this perception that the Black album was the last good one then no matter what they do it won't be good to some people.

Yeah they like to make money but they are also really good to their fans check out the site in my earlier post and you'll see why.  Plus a $5.99 album- You can't buy anyones album for $5.99 so why should they be different?  The whole thing with Napster was about money but at the same time it was about people getting a hold of I dissapear before they were done with it.  Lars is a total control freak and perfectionist and that is what got him on the course to shutting Napster down.

Finally, I thought SKOM was a good look into their lives but they did come off a little whiney and I read an interview with James where he said he wished they wouldn't have done it.  Still took some balls to let people see the real side of them.  Most bands out there wouldn't do it.

Those are all greatest hits albums and not full studio albums.  I'm not going to convince you of anything so it doesn't really matter.  Lets see them make a Metallica's greatest hits.  They couldn't do it on one CD.

By the way, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers were on the verge of losing their record company until Rick Rueben produced an album for them which was Blood Sugar Sex Magic.  He has since produced all of their other albums, Californication, Stadium Arcadium, and By the Way.

I guess my point is why can't people get pass the Black album.  So you haven't liked the albums since, I think this one is going to be different.  Can't you praise them for the ass kickers they have always been live? Don't they deserve at least a little respect for the albums you do like and how much they tour and how long they play every night?
If you gave Load a second chance you might end up liking it.  It's my favorite by the way.

i loved everythign they did up to st anger.

when i dissapear came out (for mission impossible) i was put off, but stuck with them

the thing that annoys me just as much as the people that claim the band sold out because they cut their hair and because the black album exploded are the fanboys and fangirls who won't accept that they arent' as good as they used to be. i interact with these people regularly.

so go enjoy your precious and the rest of us will judge it how we see fit.

Load is actually in my top three of theirs.  [thumbsup] Maybe even my top two.

St. Anger was a big disappointment for me. Other than the first track, the rest was a non-event. Worst drum track mix I've ever heard.....
