Title: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on January 08, 2011, 06:36:02 PM (http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/yy51/wbamiduro/Project%20Desdamonda/IMG_1832.jpg)
Since we're such an opinionated group of individuals, I'm hoping the same will hold true for this post. Picked up an S2R800 from a fellow DMF member. Here's what's on tap for this winter: Mods in progress - Acewell 3962 digital gauge LightWerks taillight with integrated turn signals Monza belly pan Oberon fuel tank cap Marvin midpipe Dual headlights CRG levers Electraeon fast throttle And here's what's already been done thus far.... Speedymoto top and bottom triple Speedymoto anodized steering stem and taper roller neck bearings. Speedymoto Tall Boy clipons Speedymoto Frame Sliders Speedymoto Belt Covers Speedymoto Sprocket Cover Speedymoto Crankshaft Cover Showa Fully Adjustable front forks. (GP suspension, custom shimstack and valving) Penske full adjustable rear shock with Eibach spring Brakes - 4 piston Brembo Goldlines fitted on the front with 320 MM rotors Tailchop Rear wave rotor Black powdercoated u frame on headlamp assembly Custom turn signals New rear wave rotor What the heck should I do next. Have about $1K more to spend before the reason begins. Thoughts? Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: Travman on January 08, 2011, 07:16:53 PM I'd paint or powdercoat the U bracket and headlight brackets black. It is an easy mod and it looks good. Remove the frame stickers. If you want to save them you can stick them to the underside of your seat. Hide the shock resevoir instead of emphasizing it. The plain udder exhaust looks kinda dorky. I like boomtubes or full arrow exhaust on S2R's. Powder-coat the swingarm to match the frame.
Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: Travman on January 08, 2011, 07:20:58 PM Paint the oil-cooler black or find a hypermotard cooler. Reroute the oil cooler line from in front of the horizontal belt cover to the other side.
Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: kopfjäger on January 09, 2011, 01:07:46 AM That whole exhaust needs to go badly. That udder is hideous.
Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: stopintime on January 09, 2011, 01:39:48 AM You list Marving midpipes, what kind of cans? Any?
Different clip ons for further sweep back than TallBoys? New black rearsets or powder coat the stockers? Wrap the shock reservoir in black hockey tape? Black SlingShotRacing/SpeedyMoto wet clutch cover? Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on January 09, 2011, 04:49:34 AM You list Marving midpipes, what kind of cans? Any? Different clip ons for further sweep back than TallBoys? New black rearsets or powder coat the stockers? Wrap the shock reservoir in black hockey tape? Black SlingShotRacing/SpeedyMoto wet clutch cover? Thanks for the options. I didn't think anyone made a wet clutch cover. Definitely thinking that's a yes. I'm not sure about cans yet. I was thinking Akpro 2 in 1 cause they're rare and I think they look awesome. But not totally sold on them since I love the raw pipes sound. The rear shock is flat black, I just got tired of looking at it that way and wrapped it with some Red Bull. I wonder how much powdercoating the rearset and swingarm will run me? That whole exhaust needs to go badly. That udder is hideous. I totally agree...Thanks for sending me the pic of your bike. All I can say is [drool] [moto] Paint the oil-cooler black or find a hypermotard cooler. Reroute the oil cooler line from in front of the horizontal belt cover to the other side. Thanks for the line reroute and painting recommendation. When the headlights are swapped out, I'll be sure to paint the u frame. Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: rockaduc on January 09, 2011, 05:03:56 AM +1 on ditching the udder. Also, consider BST's.
Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: 671M900 on January 09, 2011, 05:42:42 AM front fender chop and engine paint seem to be the cheapest mods to do, albeit a bit time consuming and really change up the demeanor of the bike.
Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: booger on January 09, 2011, 10:01:44 AM ^ [thumbsdown] hate the look of a chopped fender. Matte black 848 fender to protect the adjustable fork sliders w00t
[thumbsdown] on the Marving midpipe. FULL ARROW FTW, FTBS(for the best sound [thumbsup])nothing else comes close Lose the transplanted aluminum sidecover badge on the tank. Powder coat the swingarm, engine side covers, rearsets, and headlight bucket ring black. Lose the redbull can around the shock res. [puke] on the dual headlights hey, you asked for it :D Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: DRKWNG on January 09, 2011, 11:38:30 AM You won't be all that happy (and neither will your neighbors) with the sound of just mid-pipes. You would be surprised at how effective the udder is at minimizing the sound of that motor. Bare mid-pipes will be stupid loud.
Here are the first things I would do in price ascending order: SBK front fender RCS/Radial master cylinders Lite weight wheels (probably go with the OZs if you didn't want to drop the dime on BSTs). If you really want to get silly (time wise) get the swingarm powder coated black. I'll also second the [thumbsdown] on the dual headlights. [puke] on the dual headlights hey, you asked for it :D Bergdoerfer I love it..... As much as I think Arrows rock and must be good for a reason, everyone recommends them. Thinking something a little different. That's why I'm partial to the Akpro's. Did you have either your rearset or swingarm powdercoated? If so, how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking... Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: booger on January 09, 2011, 01:07:08 PM Paid about $50 to have the rearsets, headlight bucket & ring, headlight hoop & bracket, & CW tailchop bracket beadblasted & powdercoated semigloss black. Got a good deal there because they were doing an assload of semigloss black that day. This was from some place in VA that's gone now.
I got a quote from Figure Engineering in Manassas; $150 for powdercoating the swinger, $40 for each engine case cover depending on the complexity of the masking. The rearsets I would guess to be another $30 or so. I left the heelguards and footpegs silver on mine. Do yourself a favor this time and go with experts who won't screw things up! Haven't done the swingarm yet on my bike, or the engine cases. However I do have experience with a Quat-D midpipe which I had ceramic coated black, and fully cored stock mufflers. It's a good system but I'd rather have the full Arrows because they morph to a larger diameter after exiting the headers, and this makes them sound second to none and lets them flow a bit more freely. I suppose Zards do the same thing but they don't sound as good somehow. There are no Termi full systems for the bike that I know of, and Termis are way overrated anyway. ARROW FTW nothing comes close w00t Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on January 09, 2011, 01:07:33 PM ive watned an exahust system for the longest time on my bike. but if you could get a nice set of Quat D mid pipes.. with these conicals, i think they look SEXY! if only they had em in carbon fiber. fresco conicals (http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e344/Motowheelscom/Fresco/S4RTiConicalBIKE.jpg) [clap] Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on January 09, 2011, 01:10:39 PM I got a quote from Figure Engineering in Manassas; $150 for powdercoating the swinger, $40 for each engine case cover depending on the complexity of the masking. How different is your bike now with BSTs? Think getting the swingarm and rearset powdercoated might be doable this winter. I;m now super curious as to how loud my bike will be without the udders and no cans. She was loud before so I am sure the neighbors will LOVE me once I put the midpipe on. Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: DRKWNG on January 09, 2011, 03:39:52 PM I personally wouldn't run it with just a mid-pipe, but that's me.
I can't think of anything that would alter the way the bike rides/handles more than the BSTs did. Night and day difference. and yes i have twin lights. Im not entirely convinced i like them yet. i think i need smaller blinkers and to fit the clip-ons to give them the best opportunity to impress me. I really want something that will still let me show off the sexiness of the SSS. Quat-D is my only option [bang] Feel free to take that pic and shop it around locally. I could not find anyone local who would build it reasonably. It's a Y slip on and a silencer with a feed tube. It could be done a variety of ways, but I think this is the simplest. I believe he fabricated the oval silencer as well, but I don't know. That part could be off-the-shelf and modified to fit. The tube attached to the silencer and the Y are the only significant fabrication, one would just use the stock udder or any one of several mid-pipe setups. e-mail Josh and and ask if he would be interested. They do custom work at times and this time of year they're hungry for work. Here's the response I got from Josh: In order to justify this to do the reverse engineering and machine set up we would need 30 sales…I probably can do 30 for 30% to 40% off for you to resell them. To do 2 units you are talking a couple 1,000 as doing one off requires a lot of machine set ups which is where you spend all your time. Let me know what you think and I can also try and figure out some contacts for you if either of these do not work for you. Ducatiz - there's your answer [thumbsdown] on a mass order. Not sure I have a couple grand to spend just on an exhaust. If you know others, I am definitely in for a batch order. They use a generic can, it's the same SBK they have for every bike and you can see it's too LONG esp with a chopped tail. They always showed it from the right corner angle so you can't see the length. The spaghetti collector sticks out from teh bike too. I couldn't love it to save my life. It hangs much further down than the pictures they show, about 5" below the seat. It performed well and the LeoVince kits are VERY nice quality otherwise, but... I took it off after a month and sold it. Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: DucRS on January 11, 2011, 09:11:31 AM The concept wasn't too bad. http://www.terramostro.com/index.cfm (http://www.terramostro.com/index.cfm) They don't say what the muffler is. I cant read it in the photo. Looks a little FMF but isn't. For the woods. Check out those custom brackets for the foot pegs. Not sure if that pipe routing would interfere with S2R peg and brake lever. I think that y-pipe and routing just before it look much cleaner than the Leo V. and would work with the SSSA. Nice bike you scored. I was watching that in the for sale section. BadGalBetty seems cool. I wrapped my forks (S2R8Dark) in black vinyl made a big difference. Oh ya! There's a Quat D mid-pipe for sale on the other forum. Painted black w/turn out tips on the end if you want to run just a mid pipe. I tried it just to see how loud it was. Forgetaboutit. Insane tail chop ! (http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt59/mnwalker29/photo1.jpg) I do like the Y shape exhaust on that TerraMonster, however, I think the BIG reason why I went with the Leo V was because I like the spaghetti wrap piping that leads to the can. We shall see if this sexiness works to my advantage or disadvantage. I can not lie buying BGB's bike was a good investment... [moto] The setup is really nice and given all the upgraded components one only need make a couple of changes which are already underway. Carbon fiber 8484 front cowl just arrived from Houston Superbikes. New Tank courtosy of Ducati was just installed this morning. Leo V exhaust should arrive soon. Plan on taping the forks this weekend. Bike is coming together nicely for next season. If you're not completely set on that one, and want something that no one local has, take a look at Remus. Looks like Remus might be on deck. The SBK I bought from StarCycle via Amazon on Jan. 11 hasn't shipped yet and is scheduled to arrive on the 20th (not likely to happen). Got a note from Amazon today that the part hasn't shipped and they can't confirm its shipment or that the product is in stock and they haven't charged my credit card. I would say do the footpegs too but for that to really work you would need to do the swingarm/case covers and that is a expensive and timely process in itself. plus if youre going that deep its a good time to do the lightened flywheel/slipper clutch if you ever want to. then of course you need a black clutch slave to match the case covers. and if your getting into that then you should find a better clutch master and some custom lines(black right?). but then you need to match them and in that case you should get better calipers and custom lines there too. and if your going that far then you simply must..... ;D Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on January 28, 2011, 07:04:24 AM custom lines(black right?)..... ;D En route from another member. Added the yellow/black stripped belly pan, SSR gas cap, clear front turn signals and integrated rear brake light/signals and CRG levers. Have a healthy balance of yellow and black with the bike. Purchased and installed a Marving midpipe and 2 in 1 exhaust. Like the midpipe, hate the exhaust. Not sure what to do regarding the exhaust. Painted the stock udder flat black and threw it back on the bike until I figure out my next move.... Meanwhile, I picked up brembo radial master cyclinders from and 848/1098 to upgrade the brake/clutch. Makes a world of difference now [moto]! Brake feel is much more responsive. Also got my hands on gold annodized rear sprocket flange, kickstand (stock one needed to be replaced) and a rear, front axle nut. I ordered a 4Racing rearset OVER a month ago [bang] and it still hasn't arrived. Might have to go with plan B (Rizoma) if my shipment off the boat never appears. The brake side dropped in perfectly with a minor trip to the hardware store to grab a pin the secure the rear brake pin in place. The only issue I have is that rear brake light doesn't have a place mount to the rearset (I will have to post int he tech section as how to fix). The clutch side was a breeze to toss on. Ergonomics are totally different than the stock setup. Took me a while to get used to my foot position when riding to work this morning You can adjust the the toe peg in four different positions. Additionally, you can adjust the angle/height of the rear peg in any one of 10 positions. The toe peg distance to shift gears is a little longer but shifting feels a lot easier, smoother and finding neutral is a sinch. Position wise, it still feels a little awk, which I expected. I think I need to go back and adjust the angle and toe peg positions to find my comfort setting on my clutch and brake. Pics soon. Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: stopintime on April 06, 2011, 06:44:11 AM Measurements?
Brake light: when is it really required? We hardly ever use only the rear brake. If you must have one, a banjo fitted pressure switch is ~$25 You have one shift adjuster by the rod mounting and another by the toe peg. Bike is looking good man. [thumbsup] I gotta get some of my mods done so mine doesn't look bad parked next to yours, lol. A couple small suggestions: I noticed your speedymoto sprocket cover is still all silver. You should try and get that powdered yellow to match the belt covers on the other side. Also, I see you still have your frame sticker on the brake side. You should peel it off so it doesn't ugly up the frame. I took mine off a while back and it was pretty easy. The only time consuming part was getting the remaining glue off, but I used some goof-off. Hey, btw, weren't you going to wrap your forks? Just wondering because I thought you already did it. I haven't done mine yet since I'm working on getting my parts powdered, but I plan on doing it pretty soon hopefully. Brake master pushrod at an awkward angle? To me, it seems like these rearsets have a nice adjustment range [thumbsup] When feet are positioned backwards, the ankle joint angle changes - feet point more downward, which might require you to lower the toe pegs in relation to the foot pegs. If that makes any sense..... Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: 696DCRider on April 06, 2011, 10:42:58 AM Artful,
I would definitely be game for that. Hopefully I can get my parts back from Figure Engineering before and put the bike back together because right now my bike is without top triple, handlebar clamps, exhaust hangers or rearsets. Cool, shoot me a PM if you can make it to the northeast side of Balmer on Saturday around noon. That goes for you too Wunmi (or however the hell you spell that haha). Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 (Complete) Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on April 18, 2011, 08:27:06 AM I dare say or write on this the forum that my Ducati mod project is complete. So here goes nothing, I think I'm finally done modding her out.
When I got her she looked like this. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her from day 1. She rode like a champ but I wouldn't be me if I didn't start tinkering with it. (http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/yy51/wbamiduro/Project%20Desdamonda/photo-1.jpg) BGB had done a lot of the $$$ work on her. BGB shipped the bike to me with resprung forks from GP Suspension, an adjustable rear shock from Penske, Brembo goldline brakes, rear wave rotor, a 14T front sprocket, Speedymoto frame sliders and belt covers and a ton of other parts and bits. Here's what happened to PROZAC now TICKET since getting her in October 2010. I removed the stock front fender and replaced it with a carbon fiber front fender from an 848. I liked the stock fender but the 848 one looks a bit more aggressive for me and to me liking. Next I removed the stock headlight and threw on the dual headlights that I purchased from MonsterParts.com. I added CRG lanesplitter mirrors , Rizoma sportline grips and rectangular turn signals. The stock levers were replaced with CRG gold annodized ones with radial master cyclinders from an 08 848. Much better feel, braking is 100 times better and has a serious bite to it. The stock reservoirs were replaced with gold annodized resevoirs from Rizoma. I also added Rizoma gold annodized bar end caps for some additional bling. My ECU was sent off the Houston Superbikes to be reflashed to be have the race setup installed and the immobilzer removed. The stock gas tank was replaced with an Oberon gas tank cover/cap that was powdercoated black and yellow to match the bike. The stock rearset was replaced with one from 4Racing. Much improved ergonomics. I added a carbon fiber rear hugger and replaced the stock tail light/signals with a Light Werks LED tail light with turn signals. To top her off I added a gold annodized Evo clutch slave cyclinder, SSR rear sprocket and a Monza belly pan painted yellow with a black stripe. After all these mods, I feel like she's absolutely perfect although I know some will disagree [coffee]. I could wrap the forks, powdercoat the swingarm, find a cool way to hide all the wires, get some BST wheels or a host of other things, she just feels right the way she's currently setup. Now to ride the hell out of her and enjoy the twisties in the area. [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [coffee] BTW - did you go from a 15mm coffin reservoir to the new radial? I ask because I went from a 16mm coffin to a radial and I'm not overwhelmed. Better? Sure, but I think the upgrade from stock master to 16mm and calipers/rotors was much more important. It can be done, but the lever travel might be a little long. Shouldn't be an issue - especially if the free-play is adjusted to a minimum (, but not less than minimum) The question I raise with my, vs Mad's, experience - is that going from 15 to 16mm coffin may be significant. I haven't raced my radial yet, but the only difference I can detect is "feel" - which just might not be worth it for the street (YMMV) Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on April 19, 2011, 04:32:41 AM For me it all came down to feel/comfort With my stockers, the brake lever travel was longer and the feel when braking was absent. With the Rizoma's I think there's a BIG difference. Applying the brake only take a smidge of pressure to the lever. Additionally, I get a much better feel from the brakes now with these master cyclinders. Are they a little too much for the street, one might say so but I like the feel and responsiveness of the brakes. As for hte clutch, no big difference when I made the switch. I think the only thing I would say was that finding the sweet spot is a tad bit easier to locate. Other than that no big difference.
Here are the specs for the resevoirs I have - Dimensions- height-49mm, width-40mm, volume-27mm Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 (Complete) Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on May 09, 2011, 09:58:11 AM Before

Title: Re: Next Set of Mods - Suggestions for 05 S2R800 Post by: TitanMonsterS4R on May 28, 2011, 12:26:40 PM I rarely sing the praises of a mechanic but Chris Saunders at Battley Cycles did a great job with my bike. He turned the FAAACCCCKKKK out of my S2R800. This bad boy is now pumping 77BHP to the rear wheel and he installed a Dobeck TFI with a custom fuel map. Now the bike will pump gas based on throttle position and RPM.
Now she responsive throughout the entire RPM range. If you're in the DC area and have some coin to drop on your Monster. Don't get a PCIII. Let Chris rock your bikes world with a Dobeck TFI. |
